How the GOP won the economic spin war: 3 theories - Yahoo! News

New York – A majority of Americans buy the GOP's claims that slashing spending would strengthen the fragile recovery — even if many economists disagree

And

2. Voters don't understand economics
Americans care more about creating jobs than reducing federal debt, says Steve Benen at Washington Monthly. Yet they keep repeating the GOP's "ridiculous message" that cutting spending will help create jobs, and slashing taxes will somehow reduce the deficit when "tackling the deficit would make matters worse, not better, for those hurting most." What's behind this jarring disconnect? "Public ignorance."

If anyone knew economics including the dipshat GOP they would know that cutting spending and lowering taxes isn't going to create jobs and reduce deficit at the same time, something has to give.

Name calling is only going to create enemies.

GOP knows deficits do not hurt until it comes time to pay on them. So increasing the debt by lowering taxes will result in more money in the economy for a couple years.

You know the problem with posting links?

Most people read them.

3. Actually, the GOP is simply right
People believe the GOP because Republicans happen to know their economics, says Tina Korbe at Hot Air. Obama and the Democrats got their enormous stimulus package in 2009, and look how well that turned out.

Your problem is simply an inability to read with context, they don't believe the GOP is actually right.

If you follow the link to Hot Air and the article by Tina Korbe you'll find this, not sure context is important, it pretty much sums up the mess:

" Today’s long-term outlook from the CBO reveals that [the] situation is even more dangerous than many realize. Our nation’s debt, driven by years of overspending, threatens us with a Greece-like calamity. CBO’s unnerving projections, released 784 days since the Democrat-led Senate has passed a budget, paint a sobering picture of what will occur if we do not act immediately to bring our spending under control. The CBO data also reaffirms that our surging debt is being spurred by excessive spending and insufficient growth—not because Washington isn’t taxing enough—and that excessive government borrowing is already slowing economic growth. …

Today’s report only further highlights the Democrats’ inexcusable refusal to pass a budget in 784 days, during which time we’ve spent more than $7 trillion. Making matters worse, Democrats haven’t scheduled a hearing to discuss this outlook—a hearing the GOP-led House Budget Committee has planned for tomorrow—another stunning decision in a time of fiscal crisis. I hope it’s a decision they will reverse."

The last time the government actually cut taxes and spending and let the economy work itself out was 1920/21.

Unemployment dropped from 12% down to 4% in 18 months. A year later you could not find an unemployed person in America.

Contrast that with the FDR Depression where Progressives tried to centrally plan and terrorize American businesses and gave us misery that surpasses the 7 Biblical lean years and did not end until Hitler invaded France

Cut taxes, cut spending in half, do away with everything except SS ( because people paid into it
for their entire working life ) and the military. All the rest of that shit can simply go away.

If there is a state dept. of "whatever", then there is no need for a Federal Dept. of "whatever".

Then we'd find that there is plenty of money and by getting rid of all the Fed Depts businesses
would flock to get into America and hire people.

Do you really think that the Masters of the economy don't understand what the outcome of their policies will be?

Really?

Sad after all these years of tax cutting and war spending and growing government no new jobs were created. Obviously it does't work. The repulican policies have of Bush etal have bankrupted our nation. We may now be beyond repair. For them it's about power they care not about how they get there.

Wait for it. Someone will claim that Obama has increased the debt 5 trillion in 2 and half years when he actually inherited most of that debt from Bush as well. Bush's tax cuts and increase in spending put this country in a pretty tough spot.

But all the right wants to do is continue this ponzi scheme that has allowed the richest men in this country to pay less taxes percentage wise then someone in the middle class. The middle class is shrinking because of it and before someone says that the economy sucking did that. It actually started to shrink before the recession.

So you're saying Obama did not increase the debt? Why was none of this a problem when Bush was president?
The truth is Obama has spent and spent with nothng to show for it but high unemployment and IOUs.
The GOP is right, the Democrats are wrong. This is as starkly visible as it ever has been. 3 years of total control by the Democrats, able to enact their biggest pet projects, has been a disaster for this country that will take hard work to recover from.

Or Obama and his administration has so badly mismanaged the economy that people are paying a heavy price for the malfeasance.

You know little things like: "Geithner: Taxes on 'Small Business' Must Rise So Government Doesn't 'Shrink'..." people understand the crap the left is pulling and they don't like it.

What I find astounding is the fact that you continue to think its ONLY the GOP, Flaylo.

It takes an an amzing facts filter to arrive at such a partisan POV.

Funny that cutting taxes and spending worked in 1921.

Obamas policies just like FDR's haven't worked. How many tries does it take before the idiots catch a clue??

Bush's tax cuts generated a ton of revenue. Its just a shame that we have idiots in Congress who like nothing better than to spend, spend and continue to spend. Thats both parties.

No doubt the same economists who thought the stimulus would work.

Right, people are stupid. If they just believed it worked, it would.

Voters are bottom line people. They don't care HOW it works just so long as it works! The Democrat plan doesn't work.

This is not an ideological argument, it's common sense. The truth is that Obama was always going to have the debt increase under his watch because it was already out of control before he took office and there was a recession. His contribution to the debt is not as large as you believe.

No, the years and years of outrageous government spending will take hard work to recover from. You can't pin this on Obama because it's been a problem for 20 or more years now. It's not like he can suddenly pull out his magic wand or pull money out of his ass. Somebody needs to step up and come up with a solution, otherwise we're fucked.

Voters may not understand economics, but they do understand that they are doing with out now more then they did two years ago. And they dont like opinion journalist implying they are ignorant. They really hate it when there politicians imply that they are ignorant. They understand, that when they max there credit cards, they need to pay that balance down until it is manageable again, not ask for a higher credit limit that will be maxed again in a year. They also dont like being lied to. I recommend Obama get with Dave Ramsey. The president needs to abandon this money hemorrhage that Bush and he started.

When I read someone say the stimulus did not create any jobs I hear "this person does not understand economics".

Is it up for debate:
-The stimulus dumped money into the economy
-We will pay for it in the future
-We are just barely in the smallest way paying already
-Without that money the economy would be worse
?

Up for debate is the effect it will have on the future of America and if the interest on the debt will make the stimulus a bad decision.

Oh, and yeah and another time trick, 1920 and 1947 were good times to buy stock in American companies. World wars had weakened the rest of the industrialized world and we were blessed because of geographic isolation.

I thought he ran on ending the failed policies of George W Bush?
Obama's track record is that he spent with abandon. The deficit was within normal range for GDP until he took over.

The story line that Obama inherited an intractable mess is merely excuses for his failures in office.

Guess the twit has watched many re-runs of the Wizard of OZ between only wishing she had a brain and suddenly discovering she is no longer in Kansas I'll bet she is very confused
