Packerland!
When employers decide it will cost them less to pay the fine than to insure their employees, how much will families be paying for insurance in the exchanges they have to buy their insurance from?

It will cost eveybody, everywhere, more and it will further cripple small businesses. One business with 65 employees is going to let 15 of them go, to bring it down to 50, so his insurance rates for his employees doesn't go up. :cuckoo: Other companies are saying they are dropping insurance plans....

This decision today was the best thing that could have ever happened to this country as it ensures a Romney win in November. The independents are very unhappy.....

My power has been out for 8 hours, since logging in this morning. ... So pissed!!!!!!

Now according to the barry supporters it's going to be free and everyone will be covered and there will be bunnies dancing in the fields, and the streets will be paved with gold, etc., ad nauseum.

Oh, well that's not so bad.

The politicians that signed that bill should be charged with fraud and punished to the full extent of the law. Iceland, kicked the corrupt politicians out of office, and have started prosecutions for them and their banker conspirators. It would send a great message to our "leaders"/representatives.

If you're already getting insurance from your employer, why would they chose to stop it?

If you're not getting insurance from your employer, buying insurance from the exchanges will be cheaper than buying it otherwise would.

Yes, Willard lied about that in his speech today. He also suggested that one couldn't keep their insurance carrier. The Insurance companies love this bill ... they wrote it.

Because your employer can save money by switching to the penalty and sending you over to the exchange.

This argument is getting old. Employers could drop health insurance for their employees now and it wouldn't cost them any penalty, so why haven't they done it yet? You see, it just doesn't make sense. Employers are not offering their employees insurance to avoid penalties, so putting penalties in place is not likely to change things.

Personally though, I wish that insurance was not made the responsibility of any employer. I wish everyone had to purchase their own insurance, then you would see some real changes. The good of that would be that consumers would actually demand better management and lower rates. It would also make businesses more competitive globally as most of their competitors outside the US do not have to deal with the cost of health insurance.

They could save money right now by simply dropping the insurance. Why would they drop it then, if not now?

Latest estimates are it costs 1/4 million to raise a child to 18. And that is with big brother paying for the education and such.

Anything to support that, Doc?

The "Obamacare" law. That's the whole point of the "exchanges". The variation of prices is determined in the law.

Because now they know their employees would not be going without so the incentive to keep struggling to keep up with higher and higher costs just went out the window.

Forgive my skepticism, but I was also told that this wasn't a tax.

What stop measures or caps are in place to lower the price?

In 2010:

  • 49% of Americans had employer-sponsored coverage
  • 57% of Bay Staters had employer-sponsored coverage

Bless that Romney for dispelling the myths espoused by his followers.

And in the category of meaningless data points, the prize goes to Greenbeard. Come get your ribbon.
