House GOP leader: Repeal ObamaCare now, replace it later

Repealing and replacing the ACA at the same time is what Donald Trump got elected to do and if this does not happen it will be a broken promise.

He "promised" pretty much everything out of both sides of his mouth, often denying it the very next day. The concept of "broken promise" hardly applies.

The Republican base will be agitating for repeal and does not want to wait to get 60 votes in the Senate to allow for a replacement.

McCarthy said that he thinks doing repeal first would increase pressure on Democrats to come to the table and get to 60 votes for a replacement.

“You know this is going away five months from now, and you’re going to avoid it?” McCarthy said, speaking of Democrats.

He said Democrats would be to blame if no replacement ever ended up materializing because of an inability to get 60 votes in the Senate.

But the prospect of repealing ObamaCare with no replacement immediately clear would put a cloud of uncertainty over the 20 million people who have gained coverage from the health law.

House GOP leader: Repeal ObamaCare now, replace it later
--------------------------------

Throw 20 million off their healthcare. Take away the pre-existing conditions clause, kick kids off their parents insurance, screw over coal miners who depend on Obamacare because of the Black Lung disease they got from "clean coal". Really and deeply fuck over millions hoping many die.

AND THEN BLAME IT ON THE DEMOCRATS!!

Sounds like a winner.

Considering it was passed under the "we have to pass it to see what's in it and how it works" concept, I don't see your concern here.

The POS is imploding anyway...what a disastrous boondoggle

The Republicans will shore it up. You watch. They won't repeal it. They'll just make it an even tastier gift to the insurance industry.
They could actually do both by allowing competition across state lines.

Depends on what the goals are. That's why I don't want to equivocate on "replacing" ACA. Most people will understand "replace" as an effort to achieve the same ends. And the biggest problem with ACA is that it is chasing down the wrong goal. Insurance is the problem, not the solution.

Wow, that's brilliant. Just think, you could have healthcare from New York but live in California. So your healthcare company fucks you over, so you report them to, to, oh wait. You live in California and your insurance is in New York. There is nothing you can do. You just got fucked.

How's it feel? Good?
Don't know how that works, huh? You are a bizarre man, aren't you?

Got a quote of him saying "at the same time"?

He said it less than three weeks ago.

Lesley Stahl: And there’s going to be a period if you repeal it and before you replace it, when millions of people could lose -– no?

Donald Trump: No, we’re going to do it simultaneously. It’ll be just fine. We’re not going to have, like, a two-day period and we’re not going to have a two-year period where there’s nothing. It will be repealed and replaced. And we’ll know. And it’ll be great health care for much less money. So it’ll be better health care, much better, for less money. Not a bad combination.

The enforcement authority in the GOP across-state-lines proposal is a mess.

Anyone covered by obamacare right now would have until the end of their contract. A very few people could possibly be without coverage for a short time. The rest of us would be in a much better position.

Yeah and I want to know how Trump thinks he can make a great health care system and it not costing a ton of money. It's all gibberish. He says things will be great and wonderful, but that he will save money and cut spending. You can't do both!

Republicans don't feel good if people aren't suffering. If some die, it's even better. They are the new breed of Right Wing Christian. Not succor the sick and poor, but fuckover the sick and the poor.

What's the death toll in Chicago?? :eusa_whistle:

Do you understand what the Department of Commerce does?

The GOP's stock across-state-lines legislative language is clear.

“(a) In General.—Subject to subsection (b), with respect to specific individual health insurance coverage the primary State for such coverage has sole jurisdiction to enforce the primary State’s covered laws in the primary State and any secondary State.

State officials are responsible for enforcing their laws in other states. Like I said, it's a mess.

If they were talking about moving to a uniform federal regulatory approach that would make much more sense. But that's never been what they're proposing with the across-state-lines slogan. Instead it's this muddled bullshit.

Uniform approach scares the shit out of me. Health care here costs about a third less than, say New York City. If the Feds wanted a "uniform federal regulatory approach" we should a uniform cost, higher than the current cost in NYC.
The Dept Of Commerce would be the logical Federal oversight with the State Insurance Commissioner in the state of the insured setting and enforcing rules.
Want to sell insurance in Alabama? Follow Alabama regulations or get crossed off the list.

Want to sell insurance in Alabama? Follow Alabama regulations or get crossed off the list.

That's how it already works. What the GOP proposes is that insurers can enter Alabama's market without following Alabama's regulations. They would strip the state of its ability to enforce its laws on out-of-state carriers entering its market. And they don't give any oversight to the Department of Commerce or any other federal agency.

It would strip the states' power to create protectionist fiefdoms. This is what the commerce clause was intended to be used for - to stop states from interfering with interstate commerce.
