House GOP Declares Unanimously: Bush Tax Cuts Did Not Blow Up The Budget

"When the Republicans passed the Bush Tax Cuts, they told us that they would pay for themselves," Peters said in an official statement. "We now know that this added over $2 trillion to the deficit and by forcing an up or down vote on this amendment, I'm giving House Republicans the opportunity to recognize this fact."

They just had the vote. How can you say it's not true.

Sick puppy.

Gee, there's a surprise. A bunch of Republicans deny another Republican did something wrong. And a bunch of Democrats agree a Republican did do something wrong.

Next they will vote that man made global warming doesn't exist

I think the 2 wars on the other side of the planet had more to do with budget busting than the tax cut. The tax cut put money back into the consumers pocket and they spent it, reducing inventory and causing demand on supply and keeping people working and those who worked in the US, paying taxes. Of course most of the ones working were in China.

The wars had no redeeming effect on the economy except keeping a few war industries booming and creating a private military army.

Tax cuts didn't cause the deficit problem government spending did. Did you know that tax revenues were higher during the first three years of the Bush Presidency than they have been during the first three years of the Obama Presidency? So how is that? How do you have tax cuts and have more revenue?

Yet even though there has been less tax revenue, government expenditures have exploded in the last three years.

Gosh! Do you think it might have something to do with the crash?

Nooooooo! Couldn't be!

The GOP are going to really screw-up the 2012 election with this partisan propaganda. Whay they need to figure out is what happens if the Dems win the WH and maybe keep the Senate under 60 GOP votes.

Medicare is Bankrupt, SS is not fully funded after 2037, and the Debt will be hitting $20T by 2016. The DC whores are riding the country into ruin and only Senator Coburn is being a realist.

I like some of Obama's ideas about stopping tax breaks for moving factories overseas, and giving tax breaks for new US jobs to restore US manufacturing. I also like Warren Buffet Tax to make sure "Only little people pay taxes" stops.

The only other tax I'd start is a transaction tax on Wall Street, object being to raise capital and grow the economy instead of having the Global Casino. I'd stop derivatives and short sellers by taxing them into long positions.

Were the tax cuts met with an equal spending cut?

Hmmmmm...

Nope. Bush and the GOP Congress kept increasing the budget, year after year. Every year.

Most estimates put the loss of revenue around $2-$3 trillion for the years of 2001-2009. Even the free market guru, Alan Greenspan, admits this.

MR. GREGORY: You don’t agree with Republican leaders who say tax cuts pay for themselves?

MR. GREENSPAN: They do not.

Who in their right mind lowers taxes, starts a war, and then lowers taxes again? Bush and pals.

Thanks for making my point.

The supposed "Bush" tax cuts were enacted to bring the economy out of recession, what happened?

Present day, recession, followed by raising taxes or the threat of raising taxes...followed by spending orgies....

What follows, unemployment above 9 percent for god knows how long and a depressed economy.

Most no conservative defends Bush's spending... but that spending, past spending, and our massive spending now is the problem... not the tax cuts that were made (even though all of us who got cuts still pay infinitely more in federal income tax than ~47% of the citizen populace)

Holy shit. I have seen a lot of stupid shit on this forum, but this one wins first prize.

It is astonishing the leaps and twists people will make to blame Obama retroactively for the recession, but this is a full-on delusion.

There was no tax increase! And to say the recession was caused by a THREAT of a tax increase? HOOOOOOOOLY SHIT!

Has more to do with obamaturds incompetency and his spending way too much. His fault exclusively.

This is what the GOP congress is reduced to? Proclamations of nuh uh!!!!????

No wonder they have single digit approval.

Btw it's hard to call it a GOP congress, when the Dems control the Senate.

You do realize that the Senate is a part of Congress don't you?
