People get hung up on labels. And since so many people are (understandably) confused about what those labels mean, for purposes of discussing things in this environment, labels are guaranteed to evoke almost nothing but people debating what the words mean.

People also are into politics of cult personality. Hence we have the posts that now almost inevitably start out:

______________, the worst person in the world because they're a LABEL, bla bla bla bla bla.​

Now these cult of personality post usually aren't really invitations to discuss anything rationally.

They are merely inflammatory invitations to insult people who disagree with the author's basic premise

You can have serious issue policy driven discussions here, though.

But you're going to have to wade past a lot of honest and sincere, but terribly uninformed people in order to find the reality based posters.

And then, too you're going to have to ignore the trolls who simply post the most inflamatory things they can think of just to evoke similarly inflamatory responses from people who take them seriously.

So this place, like most of these places, might be a good place to learn something from people who are informed.

But if nothing else, they are also places where one can truly see just how difficult it is to get through to the the uneducated (and damned proud of it, too) crowd.

Second of all, almost every 'proof' of man's influence has been fraudulent. Hockeystick, proven to be a deliberate trick of the software, not based on fact. Climategate... remember?

Glaciers demise 'science' was taken from non-grad college activist articles from the WWF and anecdotal evidence of ice climbers in Nepal, not scientific testing.

There is too little CO2 in the atmosphere, let alone what's produced by us to affect significant change (0.0006% manmade) versus watervapor which is 4% and a much more powerful greenhouse gas.

Sorry, your science has just as much contrary evidence as supposed evidence for it.

And ultimately mankind cannot be proven to be the sole cause. Nothng but an envirofascist global power grab

Huh... Where in the scientific method is popularity scored? Spontaneous Generation was VERY popular. Why isn't it science? Oh that's right Pasteur popped that a long time ago. How about Land Bridges in favor of Plate Techtonics? Evolution? Huh. Funny thing is those were once kook theories. Here's some more kook theories that didn't make it:

Perpetual motion (Damn second law of thermodynamics)
Phrenology (Lump on head not predictive? Nooooo!)
Earth Centered Astronomy (Repent or suffer hot pokers!)
LeMarkian Genetics (what you mean my lost arm doesn't pass on to my child?)

Science is based on repeatable fact. So far, the Chicken Littles are failing to reproduce anything they claim. They use models that are consistantly failing to be accurate, and selective numbers to back their claims while ignoring tons of samples that are contrary and cooking the software to make sure their desired result occurs.

This is not science, this is propaganda.

I was involved in political discussions with members of another board. I was depressed and dis-heartened by the amount of people who thought socialism/communism was a good and viable form of government. I am conservative/libertarian with an insatiable, bordering OCD, for the truth in history. I will probably start out slow, until I get my feet wet, then promptly land on the heads of people who ignore the realities, of the misery, that communism and socialism bring to the people that have to live under those conditions. Looking forward to getting to know everyone....G
