I don't know where the appropriate sub-form for this topic is, so I thought I'd share it here.

Any adult in America (particularly male) in the 18-26 bracket has grown up with and around videos games. Many of them, like myself, still play them late at night when there's nothing else to do.

On games such as Team Fortress 2, or Napoleon Total War, etc, servers have Administrators, whose jobs are to maintain general order (prevent trolling).

Yet, it seems these days that Administrators rarely perform their actual intended function --- removing obvious hackers and trolls. These days, they spend most of their time policing chat.

Today it really came to head. Someone said the phrase "dumb retard" and the admin banned the person saying is was an "offensive slur." Meanwhile, there were "friendly" players attacking the sappers and artillery-men.

Someone remarked: "Wow, don't you wish that admins these days spent as much time policing the trolls, hackers and team killers as they did they spent policing the chat."

A lot of people agreed. A couple said "Yeah fuck this" and "Badmins" (Bad-admins) and left the server.

Now, the reason I am writing this thread is because this story is NOT remarkable. It's now very common on all private run servers (Tf2 and total war) and public run servers (World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2t; Blizzard) for the Admins or the authorities to immediately police CHAT and other textural exchanges and communications, rather than the behavior of the players in the game itself.

Something that hasn't gone unnoticed either is that many Admins have become so by simply being Donors and many of them champion "Brony" sprays and are very defensive when the word "brony" is used negatively, some have banned players for saying "brony kid" as a "homosexual slur" even though they use brony sprays/logos and even designed a Saxton Hale boss in x10 mode (Team Fortress 2) after the the MLP characters.

It seems that political correctness has actually spilled over into the video game industry, but only because it's being enforced by a very select minority that PAYS money to become administrators in order to punish people who don't' conform to their speech codes. Chances are in the video game world, as Administrator is more likely a homosexual (and admits it) than they are not! How can it be that over 50% (more like 66%) of Admins are gay, when not even 5% of the actual population is gay?

These same people who immediately punish people for using the word "faggot" or "brony" seem to be totally uninterested when someone uses the word "******" or "cracker" or "chink" or "beaner" or other racial terms.

One admin was spraying a gay near-porn image and said "it's just art." Yet he banned someone who sprayed an image of the crucifix that said "Jesus loves you." And he removed the spray, determined who sprayed it and then banned him for "controversial religious images."

And then something happened today, that inspired me to write this post:

I asked how come no one uses their microphones anymore, in order to communicate. Someone responded, literally, "We don't know what we're allowed to say, so we don't use them."

Gays have literally taken over the authority positions (through bribery) in order to police chat, and contribute nothing towards their intended function: Increasing happiness on the servers. Instead, they've created an environment of fear and have caused people to stop socializing publicly in public video games.

So what's the debate question?

Has political correctness infiltrated our daily lives?

I just learned that, and I mean this in the nicest way, you are a geek. Or would that be nerd? Well, whatever the kids are calling it these days, you be one!

I am but another. Hence my avatar, and my love of MMORPGs. As to the debate question, political correctness has already infiltrated our lives. Hence why we talk about it right now.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time in SC2 and have not noticed anything that you speak of. Nothing in PS2 or HALO either. This seems something that is somewhat confined to TF2 if it really is that bad.

To be honest, most games i play the chat is virtually free of any oversight until something is reported. most of the SC2 chat rooms are monitored by the clan that created them (hell, there really is only one chat area now). The amount of racial and sexual slurs are insane. No one really cares though as it is easy to ignore any particular player in almost any game.

I really have not seen what you are describing. I have seen the exact opposite in fact. Children 'expressing' themselves because the adults are away and they get to say ****** and cock without repercussion.

Bad mods can ruin an otherwise good game. Didn't have this level of problem in my years playing Everquest 1, but in the years since casually playing D2 online (before discovering mods like Median XL) I noticed some script-level censorship. but nothing to this extent. I'd say though since pay-to-play games are all about the money (vs releasing a truly great game) anything which may threaten the bottom line is going to take priority.

I'd handle offensive language differently and creatively like converting the entire line of text including slurs into some kind of 'in-character' French. :) So if in a fantasy genre and someone looses their cool for a moment whatever they say gets converted into Dark Elvish, or in a shooting/war game world maybe some radio interference or enemy's lingo, "...Sorry about that. Guess I transmitted some enemy chatter." Anything but ruin the flow and immersion.

Especially in violent games where you're running around killing people in gory creative ways, harping on about language is totally hypocritical.

If anyone questions your integrity on gaming ask them what their hobby is. Men who sit all day watching football tend to question guys who game.

The difference is the guy who is following someone doesn't understand the person that is leading others. Why follow a game when you can be a part of winning it?
