History Is Clear: Socialism Isn't the Cure. So Why Do Millennials Like It?

The answer is clear, but the Right doesn't like it. Or, more likely, they won't understand it.

It's the fact that capitalism has been so damaged and distorted that more people are open to other ideas.

And there ya go.
.

Only if they leave out the fact that Marxist Socialism is tyrannical and destroys individual Liberty. Socialists continue to pile up the bodies on their failed ideology. In 100 years they've murdered more than 100 million souls.
They're more interested in the Eurosocialism of current day Canada, Germany, Australia.

And that's why they're making so much headway.
.

Socialism is an awful disease, not a cure.

Reality will eventually overtake the Marxist programming, but we should do more to ban such views from Academia completely.

There is nothing wrong with capatalism and there never has been. It more closely emulates nature than anything else and nature has worked well for millions of years. Socalism is nothing but an invention of politicians used to buy votes and support with the fruits of someone else's labor from stupid and lazy people.
Capitalism is not a singular, static thing. It includes variables, such as amount and efficiencies of regulations and controls.

Those who don't understand that regulations and controls are an important component of capitalism have made it a target for the socialists.
.

A load of bullshit intended to make your mouth run and nothing more and not of any substence.

How about a link to explain WTF you mean by "damaged". The US economy looks super-duper to me.
Yes, overall the economy is in pretty good shape.

And, concurrently, the wealth gap is continuing to increase. So the unevenness is continuing, presenting a nice, big target for the socialists.

That's because the GOP, in its present condition, thinks that controls are a bane to capitalism, while in fact they're a necessary component of capitalism.

I don't expect you to understand that.
.
How about if I explain it to you? See the graph below, the 1% needs to pay more in taxes. The problem with socialists is that their targets can simply move to another country with lower taxes. My solution is a 3% VAT or Federal sales tax. That hits everyone the same, but the wealthy generally buy more stuff. We disagree on "economic controls" but may agree on a tax system that funds spending more equitably.

Democrats have fought the VAT tooth and nail for decades. If implemented they would lose the pet complaint.

Free shit will do that every time.

I think what's happening here (especially with younger folks) is they simply don't want to deal with problems. From what I've read, Millennials rent most of their stuff instead of buying it: televisions, furniture, appliances..... because if any problems arise, they simply solve it by making a phone call.

This works out great for me being a landlord, because part of shunning responsibility is owning a house. They would rather rent than buy. They don't want to cut the grass, deal with a leaky roof, fix a broken window.....they just want to come home and relax after work.

Renting is so fashionable now that places are running out of rental units, and charging an astronomical price for rent. Even then, you're considered very lucky if you can land one of those desirable rentals.

So what does Socialism actually do? It alleviates you of problems and decision making. That's the attraction to younger people. You don't have to worry about saving up for college, trying to decide which healthcare plan to buy, what doctor or hospital to choose from, even what kind of food to eat. All that terrible decision making is taken care of for you.

A VAT tax is a hidden tax that people don't really see, kind of like all these global warming initiatives. We all pay for a greener country, but it's hidden in the products and services we use, so you don't really know it's there.

That's why I'd be behind a consumption tax. You see it every time you purchase something. You want government healthcare? That's a 30 cents on a dollar tax. Free college? That's another ten cents on the dollar spent.

People have to come to the realization that social goodies are not free. Government doesn't just print more money when they want to spend it. Democrats want to spend it, and send the bill to somebody else, usually a minority group of people that can't protect themselves through vote, like the wealthy or tobacco users.

I agree that the left is very good at appealing to and stoking ugly emotions such as envy in their attempts to undermine the peace and prosperity of the USA.

However your unsupported assertion that the GOP thinks that controls are a bane to capitalism is nothing but a ridiculously specious claim.

is capitalism perfect? no its not
but its the most prosperous and freedom granting economic system out there
capitalism has brought more out of poverty then all other economic systems combined
capitalism is the default economic system it is what manifest its self when all other systems fail
its the only system that doesn't have to be forced upon society by government
those are the facts that you commie liberals refuse to acknowledge

If you are going to choose to be poor, what other country would you rather be poor in? Our poor typically have AC homes, appliances, cell phones, video games, and unfortunately, the government will even get you a house in the suburbs with middle-class working people, free medical care, and paid utilities for some families. After all, how many skinny poor people do you ever see in this country?

Every generation have ideals they become interested in trying, like socialism - regardless of what history teaches about the outcomes. There will be a day when these younger generations are in the majority and will have it their way. Conservatives will only be able to hold it off for so long. When it comes, God help us all.

I just hope I'm not alive to see a socialist America.

Right now, if you desire Socialism, Communism, or a dictatorship country, you can move to one in most cases. If after a while, you find out it's not what you thought it would be, you can move back to the good ole USA......if your new country lets you.

But once they destroy this great capitalist country, there will be no other USA to move back to. It will be gone forever.

Of course it is, that was my point. Everything has to be controlled including capitalism. It's not the control so much, it's how much control they have. Socialism is nothing but government control, while capitalism (so far) has more than enough control, but still far less than Socialism.

capitalism is individuals control by proxy, and socialism is government control like you said.

Multiple forms of socialism, from hard Stalinism to European redistribution, continue to fail.

Russia and China are still struggling with the legacy of genocidal communism. Eastern Europe still suffers after decades of Soviet-imposed socialist chaos.

Cuba, Nicaragua, North Korea and Venezuela are unfree, poor and failed states. Baathism -- a synonym for pan-Arabic socialism -- ruined the postwar Middle East.

Socialism or what can be considered Democratism is kind of like the communes we once had in the 70's. Everybody under one roof. Some go out and work to bring in money. Some take care of the home and harvest gardens. Some sit in the home and have children. But after a while, the people who went out to work to bring back money got tired of doing so. Once they left, the communes collapsed.

Democrats hold on to that vision, and believe it would be great to have a nationwide commune.
