Democrats’ front-runner reasserts vow to end Iraq war

Speaking to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 700 on Friday, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton brought the crowd to its feet more than once, but never for longer than when she said she would end the war in Iraq.

“I have made a solemn pledge that if President Bush does not end the war while he’s in office that I will,” Clinton, D-N.Y., told the crowd at West Virginia State University.

The front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, the former first lady said the U.S. military has done everything it has been asked to do and the Iraqi people must step forward to end the conflict.

“The Iraqis have to take responsibility and we should not be funding them unless they start making these tough decisions,” she said.

The United States also must reach out to nations in the Middle East to help end sectarian violence in Iraq, she said: “We’ve got to work with other countries, and we’ve got to do it right now.”

She promised to send high-level envoys — including her husband, former President Bill Clinton — around the world to let nations know the U.S. policies.

Clinton said she also is working with U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., on legislation to repeal some of the authority Congress gave President Bush to begin the conflict.

“The time is now — not next year or the year after — to bring our young people home out of the middle of this sectarian war,” she said.

I think she should be held strictly accountable for her semantics as the left has done to Bush.

She has "made a solemn pledge to end the war."

So, if she does not "end the war;" rather than just withdrawing US troops, "Hillary lied."

And I want to see Ms Precious be any more successful at stopping the Shia and Sunni from whacking each other as Bush has been.

No, but for the past 7 years I've been plotting my message board revenge in the event a Dem is elected President. I fully intend to spend from the day elected to the date of impeachment holdign them every bit as accountable, in true literal fashion, for each and every word, and if their actions differ in any way from even one word = "Hillary lied."

Valid point. The liberal media will be defending her no matter what she says and does

If conservatves stay home, then you may have a President Hillary with a Dem run House and Senate

Rudy is still the frontrunner - granted we are a long way away from the election - but Rudy is a far from a Northeastern liberal

He is NOT a conservative. Being willing to continue sitting between two factions' civil war does not make him so.

Might as well be Hillary as Rudy. And THAT is going to be the mindset of conservative voters, and they WILL stay home. Staunch Republicans like you who will just vote "R" no matter who or what do not carry enough votes to win. Whoever swings the moderates does, or if one side stays home and just allows the other to take the election by default.

He is not the liberal as some try to paint him - his record shows he is far from being a liberal.

Hillary has already shown her socialist aganda. That will not play well in middle Amercia
