An average citizen was responsble for stopping a serial killer with a knife over 10 years ago, while two cops hid nearby in a subway car, afraid the perp had a gun. Just look at the difference in the way this story was reported, verus what really happened. The real hero sued the cops for their inaction, but sadly, the suit was thrown out.

Americans could be expecting too much from police officers, on account of the situation that has been created by the free flow of guns to anybody and everybody. Existing laws to prevent undesirables from having guns are proving completely ineffective.

Police officers are being expected to walk head-on into a hail of bullets! Thereby costing their lives to ever more proficient weapons and/or shooters.

The option for police officers in America is obvious but unfortunately necessary. They are deciding to shoot to kill when the situation doesn't warrant death to citizens!

What is the answer to the situation that has become so common? There is no answer and that's the reason why vigilante justice is on the rise.

The culture that is the root of the problem, can't be dealt with anymore. The 'culture' only gets worse as America's war rage on.

Most cops break their oath every day, putting illegal ordinances and laws over the constitution.
Ever hear of the first amendment auditors? They are getting rich off of these fucking tyrants. Fuck them.
As to the specific case in the OP, cops have a right to life. Those two are fucking cowards and obviously shouldnt be cops, but its their right.

Police officers can't be expected to walk head-on into certain death. It's the old west all over again where the guy who shoots first lives to tell about it!

Hence, the police hiding behind cover - or

Taking a chance of shooting and killing American citizens.

-and new laws enacted that will allow them to get away with it!

Those that are deciding to shoot to kill when the situation doesn't warrant death to citizens should be charged with murder. It's a hard job, but they knew what the job was before they filled out their first application.

That remedy was tried with the George Floyd murder, but it looks like whacking Chauvin down only aggravated the situation.

As for turning to vigilantism, the Rittenhouse murders opened that door. The situation is now spiralling out of control!

The next few months are probably going to be very difficult, as political extremism could add another dimension to the gun murders. That must be avoided at all costs! There is no road back from that!

No, police officers who started 10 or more years ago didn't know what the job was.

New police officers should know what the job is and they take on the job with an understanding that they will be permitted to kill for nearly any reason.

Maybe the majority are just that kind of people? They get a license to use their guns that they have been oiling, slobbering over, and fantasizing over. And maybe it's just a minority?

Do any forum members come to mind?

The gun grabbing culture is what's to blame. They disarm law abiding Americans while criminals are still heavily armed.
