‘Hero’ Bystander Shot Cop-Killer Dead — And Was Then Killed By Another Officer, Police Say

27 years........19.4 million Americans carry their legal guns in public for self defense....they aren't the ones shooting other people or using their guns for crime.....

The ones using their guns in crime have long histories of crime and violence, get caught by the police, then the democrat party prosecutors plea bargain the gun charge away, and the democrat party judge gives them bail...they go out and shoot people..

In the democrat party cities where almost all gun crime and murder happens, there is a tiny group of criminals who do almost all of the shooting...they are not legal gun owners, they are not normal citizens...

In fact........law abiding concealed carry permit holders commit less crime than police officers do...that is a fact...

The cop shoots the wrong guy, and it is the good guys fault? ARe you this fucking stupid in real life, or just when you post?

As noted in another post, when cops can shoot and kill you for simply holding a gun we do not actually have gun rights.

You mean like this...you idiot...

These cops roll up on a black guy holding a white guy at gun point, and they don't shoot him........a law abiding gun owner holding a car jacker until the police arrived....the police don't shoot him, they end up shaking his hand, you idiot.

It's a tragedy that the stupid cop decided to shoot first.

Here's what happens when there's no Second Amendment

Creptius....do you ever get tired of lying and being wrong......

Except.....27 years of actual experience in the United States shows you are wrong.....

Over the last 27 years, we went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 19.4 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2019...guess what happened...

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

Johnny Hurley shot a man who killed a cop in Denver. He was holding the suspect’s AR-15 when another responding officer shot him dead, police said.

DENVER (AP) — Johnny Hurley was hailed by police as a hero for shooting and killing a gunman they say had killed one officer and expressed hatred for police in a Denver suburb.

But when another officer rushed in to respond and saw Hurley holding the suspect’s AR-15, he shot Hurley, killing him, police revealed Friday.

The disclosure helped clarify what happened on Monday when three people — Hurley, Arvada Police Officer Gordon Beesley and the suspected gunman, Ronald Troyke — died in a string of shootings in the historic downtown district of Arvada, an area with popular shops, restaurants, breweries and other businesses about 7 miles (10 kilometers) northwest of downtown Denver.

According to a timeline and video released by police, Troyke, 59, ambushed Beesley after he pulled his truck into a parking spot near Beesley’s patrol car as Beesley was responding to a report of a suspicious person.

The video shows Troyke running toward Beesley down an alley. When Beesley turns around, Troyke raises his gun and fires at him as two people stand nearby, police said. Beesley falls to the ground in the video.

According to the video, apparently from a surveillance camera, and a police narration of it, Troyke grabs an AR-15 rifle from his truck and is carrying it when Hurley confronts him and shoots him with a handgun. When another officer arrives, Hurley is holding Troyke’s AR-15 and the officer opened fire, police said.

‘Hero’ Bystander Shot Cop-Killer Dead — And Was Then Killed By Another Officer, Police Say

Wow, what a sad story. Good guy with a gun killed by police. What do you think?
Dang. That sucks.

A horrible mistake. A tragedy. I don't know what can be learned except to put the gun down when
other cops arrive.

which is one of the reasons I don't carry a gun in public.
Carrying a gun in public isn’t the issue – the issue is the stupidity of those who use a gun to defend oneself or others.
What a surprise, lefties are upset the cop-killer was shot dead by a citizen, and they are happy an armed citizen got shot by cops.

God you people are sick.

No one's happy about it, numbnutz. It's sad.
But it is a cautionary tale about how an act of heroism can quickly turn into a tragedy...because the cops saw him as just as much of threat.
Now, extrapolate that out to dozens of people in that crowd armed with handguns, pulling them out.

How on earth will ANY cop be able to tell the good guys from the threats?

Amen! Even if he hadn't picked up the killer's AR-15 - he still had his pistol which the new cop arriving on the scene would have perceived as a threat.
Which is why you need to toss your gun to a safe distance and drop to your knees with your hands behind your head.

I definitely consider carrying a gun in public to be an "issue". Especially for untrained civilians.
The only issue is trying to be a ‘hero.’

Citizens should carry firearms pursuant solely to lawful self-defense – not to attempt to act in the capacity of law enforcement.

Which is why you need to toss your gun to a safe distance and drop to your knees with your hands behind your head.
That's if you get the chance. When police show up to an active shooter situation, they probably aren't going to give you time to do that.

This situation is a good illustration of why vigilantes with guns running around active violent crime scenes is, oh just maybe, not the best idea in the long run.

He was a hero......and then was accidentally killed. Tragedy out of a heroic act.

Meanwhile......

Armed Citizens Are Successful 94% Of The Time At Active Shooter Events [FBI]

Of all the active shooter events there were 33 at which an armed citizen was present. Of those, Armed Citizens were successful at stopping the Active shooter 75.8% of the time (25 incidents) and were successful in reducing the loss of life in an additional 18.2% (6) of incidents. In only 2 of the 33 incidents (6.1%) was the Armed Citizen(s) not helpful in any way in stopping the active shooter or reducing the loss of life.

Thus the headline of our report that Armed Citizens Are Successful 94% Of The Time At Active Shooter Events.

In the 2 incidents at which the armed citizen “failed” to stop or slow the active shooter, one is the previously mentioned incident with hunters. The other is an incident in which the CCWer was shot in the back in a Las Vegas Walmart when he failed to identify that there were 2 Active Shooters involved in the attack. He neglected to identify the one that shot him in the back while he was trying to ambush the other perpetrator.

We also decided to look at the breakdown of events that took place in gun free zones and the relative death toll from events in gun free zones vs non-gun-free zones.

Of the 283 incidents in our data pool, we were unable to identify if the event took place in a gun-free zone in a large number (41%) of the events. Most of the events took place at a business, church, home, or other places at which as a rule of law it is not a gun free zone but potentially could have been declared one by the property owner. Without any information in the FBI study or any indication one way or the other from the news reports, we have indicated that event with a question mark.

If you look at all of the Active Shooter events (pie chart on the top) you see that for those which we have the information, almost twice as many took place in gun free zones than not; but realistically the vast majority of those for which we have no information (indicated as ?) are probably NOT gun free zones.

If you isolate just the events at which 8 or more people were killed the data paints a different picture (pie chart on the bottom). In these incidents, 77.8% took place in a gun-free zone suggesting that gun free zones lead to a higher death rate vs active shooter events in general

=====

One of the final metrics we thought was important to consider is the potential tendency for armed citizens to injure or kill innocent people in their attempt to “save the day.” A common point in political discussions is to point out the lack of training of most armed citizens and the decrease in safety inherent in their presence during violent encounters.

As you can see below, however, at the 33 incidents at which Armed Citizens were present, there were zero situations at which the Armed Citizen injured or killed an innocent person. It never happened.

BREAKING: Man Opens Fire At Oklahoma Walmart, Confronted By Armed Citizen, Report Says

Two people were killed at a Walmart in Oklahoma by a man who opened fire in the parking lot on Monday before turning the weapon on himself after an armed citizen confronted him.
------

The assailant, who has not yet been identified, shot and killed a man and a woman in the parking lot and when he was “confronted by an armed citizen, he then turned the gun on himself,” The Daily Mail reported.
Wrong.

It’s a tragic example of what not to do when carrying a firearm.

Trying to be a ‘hero’ is reckless and irresponsible.

A horrible mistake. A tragedy. I don't know what can be learned except to put the gun down when
other cops arrive.

Why? A citizen has every bit as much of a right to posses a gun.
Rights don't matter much when you're dead.

I remember an argument I had once with my dad. I was complaining about over zealous cops, and insisting that we have various "rights" that they can't violate.

He said, "Listen, cops have guns, and they will shoot you dead if they think that's what needs to happen. The only thing you should worry about, when dealing with the police, is surviving the encounter. You can debate your rights later."

That's if you get the chance. When police show up to an active shooter situation, they probably aren't going to give you time to do that.
True.

Which is why – yet again – citizens carrying guns in public shouldn’t try to intercede in criminal conduct; don’t try to be a ‘hero,’ don’t try to be ‘law enforcement,’ let the police do what they’re trained to do.

Use you gun solely to defend yourself and your family.

As I said, if the cops can shoot and kill you for exercising your rights we do not actually have that right.

It's sound advice, really. We train cops to run into danger and to end any threats. We can't expect them to wait to see if they are being shot in the face. As long as we don't think of better ways of policing, cops are going to keep shooting people that don't really deserve to get shot. because the cops cannot be expected to wait around to make sure they aren't going to take a bullet in the face. You have a gun, and you flinch, you get shot. You wrestle with an armed cop, expect that cop to take out his gun and shoot you. As is to be expected. Should the cop wait for you to take his gun and shoot him, to take you seriously? Nope.

Sometimes you do, and sometimes you don't. Rights are merely ideas. A human construct. At any given moment, they have as much substance as they are given. All rights are limited. "Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins."

There are no restrictions in the Constitution that allow the cops to kill you for exercising your right.
