Here's The Burger-Flipping Robot That Could Put Fast-Food Workers Out Of A Job

Why don't we replace McDonalds with a vending machine?

We're getting pretty close. Automated ordering and prep. Add delivery, which is no problem, and that's exactly what it is.

Minimal staff reloading supplies and cleaning up and that's your 21st century fast food restaurant.

And people will still be bitching that their order is wrong...

This is what happens when human workers demand minimum wages that are twice what they are worth.

That's great. Now there will be even more people collecting social services. Happy? The point here is that these employers have to start paying employees enough to live on. When they do NOT, who picks up the slack?? Do you know?

Maybe the people will improve themselves? Maybe they will realize that an entry level fast food position was never meant to be a career option that enables you to support a family?

When you pay people more than what their labor is worth, a bunch of things happen. 1st, prices have to go up, or jobs have to go down. 2nd. People who are actually worth the wage being paid will now take the jobs from the lower skilled people, leaving them without a job anyway. Finally those who used to make above minimum wage, now making minimum wage will see people worth less than they are making the same $$, and will demand an increase in salary. Again, prices go up, jobs go down.

You do realize that there are always going to be people who have to work these types of jobs?

And the idea is they work them for a while, gain skill, or at least prove they can hold down a job, and then move on to a better paying one. Taking orders behind a counter at McDonalds was never supposed to be a career.

Again, if you pay someone more than they add value to a product or service, either you have to raise prices, or you have to get more productivity out of them to reduce your labor costs.

Robots multiply productivity per worker, and sooner or later become a viable option in terms of cost.

There are not enough of those kinds of jobs for everyone, and we are always going to NEED unskilled labor.

If Walmart gave every one of their employees a $3 an hour raise and they didn`t raise prices they would still be one of the wealthiest families on the planet. No, prices don`t have to go up. Look at Costco.
...and it won't spit in white people's food.
If someone spit in your food you probably gave them a reason. Don`t be such a racist asshole and you won`t have that problem.

I hope that this means all wages are going to rise. Power to the people! :D

You'll have to have at least a few people capable of maintaining the machine. This would require more skill than the average FF worker, so I would figure the pay would be higher.

If we got rid of a few million illegal immigrants there would be.

McDonald's is a multi BILLION dollar corporation. I don't really feel sorry for McDonald's.

Most of the stores are owned by Franchise operators, who don't make "billions."

McDonald's does good business pretty much no matter where they are located. One of many reasons why we are a nation of fatties. Lol. ;)

The local owner's margins are far lower than the corporate ones. The simple fact is you can't pay people more than they are worth and expect to stay in business.

McDonalds is owned by millions of people. Either as a direct investor or via Mutual Fund, McDonalds profits are partially responsible for the retirement savings of millions of Americans. They are supposed to make money!

Not to mention that each independently owned McDonalds is a separate small business for someone. It helps drive money into a local economy. People shop at business that surround McDonalds with the "while you're out" principal. These business owners support local charities and yes, employ local people.

If the people were worth the $3 an hour, then fine. If the Waltons want to do it voluntarily, fine.

But government should not force companies to pay people over their worth by such a significant amount.

I agree with that. And we need to stop taking in any more of them, unless they are coming here to benefit us in some way. Let's not forget about the billions of dollars we throw at other countries.

You don`t mind subsidizing the Walton family`s employees with food stamps? What a sucker you are.
