Hello - I am new here

I was admitted to a German Hospital in Frankfurt...bad experience

What was your bad experience, and how is it that they pay for their healthcare over there? A little more information please.
I cannot help you with their health-care payments but they do pay 60 percent or more in taxes. They are even taxed if they have a fireplace. England taxes for having screens on your windows.

Since I was American with Tri-Care prime insurance they had scheduled surgery for me (unnecessary) The wing I was on was a lock fucking ward. Like we put crazy people in. I got out of there escaped really. I hid my clothes under my gown, asked the nurse if I can go down stairs to get coffee and she buzzed the door open for me. I went outside and hid until I saw my husband coming. I told him I'm not going back. (IV lead still in my arm) I went to Military hospital, they did test, turned out no surgery was called for and they warned me to never let anyone say I needed it for that. If I didn't escape they were going to take my entire COLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On my 2nd day there a nurse came in to tidy up my bed and he said to me "You look worse then when you came in last night" I knew that had to be true because that hospital just didn't suit me.

that is a common problem, german doctors like american COLONs. they rip them out on a daily basis, even the dentists!

hoben-see means do you have

Sie haben dieses Recht meist, according to google translate

Some insist on saying "du hast" means "you hate", unless google has it wrong

Maybe our new member can put this question to rest for us
I cannot write in German...there are different dialects too. Kind of like in the USA we have North and South people with distinct accents.

and welcome to the germanguy. i am still so new here that i don't see myself as a part of a greeting committee, but i entered this thread, so i can try to display some manners.

Ich kann nicht alles schreiben, was in Deutsch, aber ich habe bei einer Holiday Inn Aufenthalt im letzten Nacht.

That would explain why I don't get a response at times. LOL My niece his daughter married some Army guy and will be living 3 hour drive from me...oh what fun. I say that because I'm feeling too old to deal with the niceties of entertaining.

You know what is funny?

Every language says "fucked" (excuse my french), the same way

I don't think I have ever said that word on this forum

Except the chinese says it this way "性交",. I wonder how it sounds in Chinese

nah, that's how translator bots deal with words they can't translate. they leave them untranslated.

abgefackt. gefickt. verfickt. those are possible german translations for fucked. close but not the same.

sorry, germanguy, for encroaching on your intro thread.

That's quite an experience, and 60% taxes sound in line to pay for that FREE healthcare. The people in the state of New Jersey are doing that now and they don't get no FREE helathcare.

Welcome, what's your experience with your health care in Germany?? I would be interested to hear about it.

Hello Maple,

thanks for a warm welcome.

To answer your question, I plainly prefer our health care system to the one in the US (or in the UK).
Two reasons:
1. We as a family have one big concern not, a lot of US families have:
Will the insurance cover a serious illness of one of my childs ?
2, If I see what has to be spent for a decent insurance in the US and what I get here for a lesser amount of money, I prefer ours.

Only: for the most people from the US our system is communism, therefore bad.

To go a little bit into details:

The system we now have in Germany was introduced about 1880 by Otto von Bismarck (definitely not a socialist).
At the moment we have a two tier system of public insurances and private insurances.
Nearly every german has a health insurance. Every employee has one. If yor income is above a certain amount you can opt out of the system and get a private insurance.
Or as an entrepreneur you can choose not to have one at all (which can become very very expensive in case of an illness).
To give you an idea about the costs, my familiy is a good example.
My wife owns a small business, I am employed.
I pay 9 % of my wage to a private, non-profit insurance, further 8 % my employer adds.
The public insurances are controlled by the government, but not owned or run by any public service.
The doctor´s self-organisation and the public insurances decide on a yearly base how the money is spend.

With that my three children are covered as well without further costs.
My wife pays approx. 9-11 % of her average income for an insurance.

We therefore spend for five persons about 9 % of our total income for a health insurance.
This insurance covers about every medical treatment there is, even a shrink if I need one.
What my wife gets for her private insurance and I for my public one is practically the same.

My son needed brain surgery when he was two and afterwards a more than two-year long treatment - all this was covered by my insurance without any question.

Therefore, if you ask me, I will ever chose our current system.

But as I know from some visits, most Americans would prefer to keep the money and pay their own insurance. But just keep in mind, that nearly all germans pay into the system and therefore form a community of solidarity.

Our clinics and doctors are equal to the ones in the US, so I would any time try to keep our system.

It has it´s flaws and problems, but in general it works.

Regards
the german guy

P.S.
We definitely pay less than 60 % tax. The maximum tax for a very high income is some 45 %. Still pretty high ? But then see our infrastructure and the one in the US.
