I heard this great old song by Ray Charles at work today. Could not believe how relevant it is today. I truly believe we should all be praying for one another and our country in these troubled times. Agree?

Heaven help the child who never had a home,
Heaven help the girl who walks the streets alone
Heaven help the roses if the bombs begin to fall,
Heaven help us all.
Heaven help the black man if he struggles one more day,
Heaven help the white man if he turns his back away.
Heaven help the man who kicks the man who has to crawl,
Heaven help us all.
Heaven help us all
Heaven help us all, help us all.
Heaven help us, Lord, hear our call when we call Oh, yeah!
Heaven help the boy who won't reach twenty one,
Heaven help the man who gave that boy a gun.
Heaven help the people with their backs against the wall,
Lord, Heaven help us all.
Heaven help us all.
Heaven help us all,
Heaven help us all, help us all.
Heaven help…

Lines five and six. What do they mean to you?
Help the black man if he struggles another day - Give him the strength to continue to fight injustice and discrimination if it continues to be necessary.

Help the white man if he turns his back away - Help him to be able to see the truth about what has been done and is being done in this country and face it, discuss it and change it, not walk away from it.

I pray for these things daily.

What truth?

Ray Charles did OK. You should follow his lead and have something to offer besides self pity.

What truth?
The truth that our country was founded by white men who believed and taught that black people were inferior due to the color of their skin. "Race: The Power of an Illusion," explains the history very well.

He did, yes. But see the line where he prays for people with their backs against the wall? He also realized that not everyone had his abilities and talents and some were in different circumstances than he was. I never suggest pity - I suggest justice and equality.

You have justice and equality but race blinds you. Not everyone needs to be gifted to make it. I grew up poor, never even owned a bicycle as a kid. No allowance. Lots and lots of black kids have had it way better than I ever did.
