Harley-Davidson to move some motorcycle production out of U.S. in big Trump-tariff fail

Didn't they make this announcement in 2015? What was their excuse then?

There will be some short turn pain, rest assured, the foreign governments will feel the pain alot more, they are the ones with the massive trade surplus against the U.S. It's about time they get a taste of their own medicine.

Trump offered the G7, "no tariffs, no subsidies, no trade barriers" Not one taker, because they are full of shyte about "protectionism", they love exploiting the U.S and protecting their own nation.

Trump was full of shit, Trump does not have the power to remove all tariffs and subsidies...that is why there was no takers, they knew Trump was just talking out of his ass...again

Trump was and still is full of shit.

Hey, Brainless! The decision to close the KC Harley plant and build overseas was made before the US tariffs were announced.
Shouldn't the tariffs have saved the jobs? That's the claim of what they do isn't it?
The Harley decision to close the KC plant came before the tariffs. What part of that do you not understand. Their decision had nothing to do with Trump's tariffs.
They wasn’t a decision to move production over seas. Trump helped them make that decision.

Yup, wrong again.
Harley-Davidson to close US factory as sales slide

Fact Check
Did Harley-Davidson Close a Wisconsin Factory to Move Production to Thailand Due to New Steel Tariffs?
The iconic motorcycle manufacturing company announced they were opening a factory in Thailand nearly a year before President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on steel imports.

MOSTLY FALSE
WHAT'S TRUE
Harley-Davidson has announced the closure of at least one of their U.S. factories and also announced that they would be opening a manufacturing plant in Thailand.

WHAT'S FALSE
These decisions were both made before President Trump imposed tariffs on imported steel, and Harley-Davidson did not shut down their Wisconsin plant nor stop building motorcycles in the United States.

ORIGIN
Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson could face new challenges in the wake of President Donald Trump’s sudden decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum in March 2018.

However, a subsequent viral Facebook post exaggerated these challenges, appearing to conflate the announcement with old news stories about Harley-Davidson’s past business decisions:

No mention of moving jobs over seas.

Harley plans to move the plant's operations to its York, Pa., facility, which would eventually add about 450 jobs as part of the consolidation.

Motorcycle riding in general is in decline. Younger people don't want the risk, and they don't see it as cool anymore. They'd rather text, and drive a car with an automatic transmission, and blue tooth technology.

The bottom line is these tariffs were supposed to create more jobs. Here is an example of jobs leaving. Tariff fail.

They have stated openly they are moving job to Thailand and CNN has also reported. They better come out and say they are hiring in PA, Trump is moving to the auto industry soon, which will be a boon of 100's of thousands of jobs, but they better hope they don't get caught up in making a bad decision and finding it tougher to sell into the U.S market again.

Yes after the tariffs.

So then you shouldn't shed a tear when a BMW or Mercedes costs 20% more.

The EU are trade abusers. To them free trade means "free money for us"
Not trade abusers, Americans want to buy more stuff that other people make than what Americans make themselves. Now you want to block that, instead of trying to compete. Good luck, you fucking communist.
Yes if we made better cars imports would decrease... that is capitalism.
And if US car companies built cars that were in demand in the EU, maybe they could sell some.

Lol.

Harley-Davidson plans a Thailand factory to serve Southeast Asian market

Try to read the ENTIRE ARTICLE before again proving your inability to comprehend.

Note the part where it says:
Harley opened a plant in India in 2011. It also assembles motorcycles at a plant in Brazil.

Note also that there is no mention of Trumps tariffs. That is because they weren't announced until June 2018.

Note the date of the article...May 2017.

This is becoming tiring...trying to teach you reading comprehension.

This quote is from Snopes....not from the debunked Facebook post that was printed there as evidence of what they were debunking.

Snopes said:
This Facebook post is largely based on a 9 March 2018 MSNBC segment that featured reporter Garrett Haake speaking with employees at a Harley Davidson plant in Kansas City, Missouri. Some viewers, including the above Facebook poster, may have been confused by the segment, as it did not clearly state that Harley-Davidson first announced that this plant would be closing in January 2018 — more than a month before Trump made his tariff decision.

The decision to build ANOTHER overseas plant in Thailand came OVER A YEAR BEFORE Trump announced his plans to add tariffs to steel and aluminum.

My God, you people are fucking brain dead!

The current move of manufacturing is unrelated to 2017, which dealt with generally smaller bikes for Asian markets. This is about "the big boy bikes."

Harley-Davidson stock rocked as EU tariffs hit where it hurts, and so does Trump

Harley has been building bikes overseas for years .

And BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and many others build lots of cars here.

Smart idea, it will allow them to avoid the tariffs when Trump hits the auto sector.

As I've said, and you can hold me to this; if he hits Canada and the EU with auto tariffs you will see 100's of thousands of jobs return to avoid the tariff.

America is the nation of consumption Canada steals your jobs and both trader don't allow you fair market access. Time to change that. These nations can do it the easy way or the hard way, they seem committed to fighting for their Golden Goose.
