Too sad. War movies are good but depressing.
I can't watch them any more. The warmongering makes me sick. The ruling class starts wars to enrich themselves, and the average people die kill and suffer.

I can understand that feeling, and I don't love every war film. But when they're made this well, I love them.

I don't think the ruling class started that war, it was mostly the ideology of a few Socialists who wanted to take over the world for 1000 years. Thank God for the average Billy, Bob, and Jack, who gave up their lives and livelihood to stop the spread of liberalism from taking over. More people should show their children to instill in them why liberalism is bad for the world and what each person must do when that Evil rears its ugly head again.

Japan woke the sleeping Giant got smacked down hard by the US. Liberals of late woke the same Giant and Hillary Rotten Clinton got smacked down hard by the US. See a pattern there?

You must know war is the health of the state....ALWAYS.

And FDR set up Japan, then ruthlessly murdered them. All for the state.

I'm no fan of FDR, but the Japanese military was just as ruthless if even more ruthless.

That's like telling Jewish people that the Nazis' ruthlessness means nothing.

It is not. Don't be stupid.

My sister loved Hacksaw Ridge too.

My favorite was Fury because my dad was a tank officer in WW2.

I'll probably go see Hacksaw Ridge just to see it.

Apocalypse Now is a scenic jungle Odyssey about Viet Nam filmed in the Philippines.

It is a pleasant fiction of what could happen if a high ranking brass went rogue.

The best scene was the French plantation with the pretty French widow with pretty boobies.

Presumably after completing the mission, Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen) returns to the plantation to live out his days there and never returns to the USA.

Note that there was no difference between Col. Kurtz (Brando) and Willard. They simply had different missions.

I haven't seen Fury yet, but a good friend of mine loved that movie. I've been meaning to watch it, so I'll add it to the list. :)

Yeah, I still love that movie. I especially love it due to the backstory of how much of a trainwreck it was to make that movie. The movie should've gone done in flames, and yet something insanely good came out of all that chaos.

John Milius wrote phrases into Apocalypse Now which were fairly popular in the aftermath of the Viet Nam War.

"The war was being lost by a bunch of 4 star clowns who were giving the whole circus away."

This was the common view at the times, true particularly of Westmoreland and Rumpsfeld.

And there was a lot of dissention in the ranks between officers and troops. The officers wanted to play war games while the troops just wanted to stay alive. So lots of officers were killed (fragged) by their own troops. Note that you did not meet any other officers besides Willard in the movie. And there was always tension between him and everyone else.
