And they are bipartisan sneaks:

The House is scheduled to vote Thursday on a bipartisan proposal to bolster the background check system for gun sales.

Unveiled late Wednesday, the legislation would provide $19.5 million in additional grant money to help states submit records to a national FBI database designed to block gun sales to certain criminals and the severely mentally ill.

XXXXX

"The background check system is only as good as the data you put in it. And right now, all the information isn't getting in," said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), a chief sponsor of the bill and the head of the Democrats' task force to prevent gun violence. "When the information doesn't get into the system, we can't enforce the law, and dangerous people who otherwise wouldn't pass a background check can slip through the cracks and buy guns."

The other sponsors of the bill are Reps. Pete King (R-N.Y.), Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn.), Joe Heck (R-Nev.), Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) and Mike Quigley (D-Ill.).

Registration is the final step before confiscation. Why repeal the Second Amendment when the sneaks can get what they want through legislation and the courts?

For decades the government has been trying to identify every law-abiding gun owner so they can learn the location of every gun.

Obviously, everybody’s background has to be checked in order to identify certain criminals and the severely mentally ill. Once your name goes into any government database you are there for all time regardless of what a law says.

In fact, the same law that mandates the background check also prohibits the data being used for registration purposes and requires that all data thus collected be destroyed other than the identifying number and the date the number was assigned.

The 2010 article by John Pierce does place the blame where it belongs:

91ef01787fd853680d1b39b8cb522268.png

The fault here lies almost exclusively with the media (TV shows, movies and news reports). From CSI to NCIS to daytime soap operas, registration is presented as a given, even in those states where registration is specifically banned by state law.

The great registration myth

The entertainment industry brainwashes too many Americans into believing everything they hear on television and in the movies; more so when they hear the same lies over and over again. The entertainment industry, and by extension television news, sold the same political lies for decades, and in so doing succeeded in selling itself as guardians of the truth.

Holding a false belief is not quite the same thing as is believing liars. During WWII millions of unarmed victims went meekly to their deaths in gas chambers because they believed the liars who led them to the final lie “You are going to take a shower.” Today’s totalitarian liars herd their victims into theaters by telling them they are going to see a movie.
Am I exaggerating? Not when you consider the fact that WWII victims had to be transported to collection points for extermination. In today’s world concentration camps are no longer necessary or practical. In light of modern biological weapons every movie theater is easily converted to a gas chamber. Why movie theaters and not any auditorium? Answer: Because the weak-minded trust the movies.

The problem of body disposal is also eliminated by mass graves spread across the entire country because there will be no reason to destroy the evidence. Many in government openly advocate abortion, euthanasia, eugenics, doctor-assisted suicide, medical death panels, sterilization, and population controls. To one degree or another every horror I’ve listed is already acceptable to a large number of Americans; so why should they care so long as they believe they are not scheduled for extermination?

Who will do the grisly work? Answer: There’s never a shortage of totalitarians willing to do the killing.

The entertainment industry made institutional murder more acceptable than it ever was in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. At least those governments tried to hide their crimes. Today’s Democrats win elections when they campaign for the same things Soviet Communists and Nazis practiced.

The first mass murders in modern times occurred when Muslin Turks slaughtered Christian Armenians; the number of dead is placed at somewhere between one and two million. Next came the Soviet Union, and finally Nazi Germany. Communist China’s slaughters came after WWII ended.

The moral outrage caused by the first three incidents of government-sponsored mass murder called for a change of tactics; hence, propaganda has been transforming government murder into acts of mercy. Population controls is the big one.

Is it any wonder that big government advocates are hellbent on disarming law-abiding Americans? Once the killings begin in earnest, the government does not want anybody with a conscience and a gun still standing.

Finally, background checks is a sneaky approach to registering every gun regardless of the Second Amendment:

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

Most of all, the Second Amendment is NOT about criminals or the mentally ill as the sneaks would have us believe. Question: Do you believe the sneaks or the men who designed the greatest form of government the world has seen to date?

Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour. The non-enforcement of existing laws is somehow going to compensated for through the enactment of new laws which will also not be enforced.

Yeah. We need laws to regulate the laws that already regulate other laws. In the meantime, I'm fortunate (for the time being) to live in Colorado where no registration is required. I currently have all the guns I need. Will focus on getting ammo before it's banned by the loons.

To HenryBHough & DriftingSand: Yet they will keep passing gun control laws until they get the one that overturns the Second Amendment. Aside from trying to legislate the Second Amendment out of existence, they hope they can accomplish their goal with the United Nations Small Arms Treaty that John Kerry signed last year:

Hagel was Biden’s stooge when they were senators. Hagel is as dumb as a doorbell, but he makes the perfect Secretary of Defense for the sneaks:

A 2010 Pentagon directive on military support to civilian authorities reveals what critics say is a policy that outlines the potential use of military force against Americans by the Obama administration, reports the Washington Times.

While the document – signed by then-Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn – contains standard provisions on support to civilian emergency services, special events and domestic use of the Army Corps of Engineers, it also outlines presidential authority for use of military weapons and personnel against Americans during times of domestic unrest.

“This appears to be the latest step in the administration’s decision to use force within the United States against its citizens,” a defense official opposed to the directive told the Times.

Revealed: Obama policy to use military against citizens

A long time ago I said UN-loving presidents like Bill Clinton (now Barack Taqiyya) would use United Nations peacekeeping forces against the American people if members of the US military deserted and joined a revolt by well-armed citizens. The quislings might not have to call in the UN. After most law-abiding Americans are disarmed —— US military personnel loyal to the New World Order crowd working with federal SWAT teams can handle the rest.

Here’s the link to the Department of Defense Directive:

Registration is the final step before confiscation.

Incorrect.

In addition to being a post hoc fallacy, it’s also ignorant nonsense given the fact that private property can’t be ‘confiscated’ absent due process, a compelling governmental interest, and just compensation.

The obtaining of search warrants and the initial court challenges alone would prove too burdensome for the government to seek to ‘confiscate’ firearms.

The notion is partisan idiocy and demagoguery.

The continued government oppression relative to firearm ownership has legal gun owners looking for ways to purchase pistols that the government know's nothing about. It's to late for us here in California as we have had a registration system since 1992 for pistols. Another good reason to leave this cesspool of a state in just 2 years.

And in Connecticut today:

Dear Sir/Madam:

We are returning your application for assault weapon certificate and/or large capacity magazine declaration because it was not received or postmarked prior to January 1, 2014 as required by law.

As a result, you have the following options for your assault weapon …

1. Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable;

2. Sell the assault weapon to a licensed gun dealer;

3. Remove the assault weapon from the state, or …

4. Relinquish the assault weapon to a police department or to the [state’s] Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection….

Obama can deploy military in U.S. for ? the flu!

Incidentally, I see shades of the destruction of Hooverville in the current VA hospital scandal.

The military was used against veterans in 1932, although the Posse Comitatus Act was not violated. Note the names of the commanders. Eisenhower looks good, but I’ve always wondered how all three would have reacted had there been a clear violation of Posse Comitatus:

The marchers were cleared and their camps were destroyed by the 12th Infantry Regiment from Fort Howard, Maryland, and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment under the command of Major George S. Patton from Fort Myer, Virginia, under the overall command of General Douglas MacArthur. Dwight D. Eisenhower, as a member of MacArthur's staff, had strong reservations about the operation. These events occured on the 28th of July 1932.

The Posse Comitatus Act, prohibiting the U.S. military from being used for general law enforcement purposes in most instances, did not apply to Washington, D.C. because it is a jurisdiction under the direct governance of the U.S. Congress (United States Constitution, Article I. Section 8. Clause 17).

Hagel was Biden’s stooge when they were senators.

Did not Senator Biden tell Senator Hagel that terrorists were criminals not soldiers! Did not Vice President Biden tell Secretary Hagel to go easy on war talk. Hell, the Administration still acts like the country is not in a war. So who did Hagel negotiate with if not terrorists?

Republicans have criticized the administration for obtaining Bergdahl’s release in exchange for the release of five Taliban members detained at Guantanamo. But Hagel insisted what occurred was a prisoner exchange, a routine part of war.

“We didn’t negotiate with terrorists,” he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Sgt. Bergdahl is a prisoner of war, that’s a normal process in getting your prisoners back.”

Sneaks or no sneaks (and this coming from someone who strongly believes in self-defense), I think there should be some check and balance: Some gun-toting folks are surely exhibiting strange behavior: Recently in Texas, we had folks carrying riffles and all sorts of guns opening into businesses that prompted even NRA to give negative remark - NRA: Texas open carry rallies ?downright weird? and ?scary? - Texas Politics

I too think that we would lead more peaceful lives if we believe majority of people around us are trying their best instead of their worst. I consider easily resorting to guns, unless in self-defense, an act of cowardice.
