Grenell will be acting DNI

Trump also thanked outgoing acting director Joseph Maguire "for the wonderful job he has done, and we look forward to working with him closely, perhaps in another capacity within the Administration!"
News of the pick, which was first reported by the New York Times, comes as Trump faces a March 11 deadline to nominate a new director of national intelligence or name a new acting spy chief as federal law prevents Maguire from serving beyond that date.

Grenell will retain his ambassadorship to Germany while he is acting DNI, according to a senior administration official.

I'm sure Pence hated swearing in Grenfell.
---------------------------------------------------
Maguire had to go since he spoke to the House on the Russian interference once again in the upcoming election.
Grenell is just another unqualified Trump sycophant.

I read in the NYT that even people in the intelligence services thought Shelby Pierson should not have explicitly said the Russians were again favoring Trump. I have no idea what evidence she or anyone has of that explicitly. But the article did mention that Russia is not going to so much "pose" as americans and post on social media, but instead wants to get americans to repost planted fake news.

That's his only qualification. LOL

I'm saying the briefing was bullshit unless they tell us the details of what Russia intends to do and provides examples. All the intel agencies said was the same bullshit of 2016 where they couldn't show that any votes were affected.
Tell me that you and the other democrats on the USMB would vote for Trump if you saw any Russian propaganda. That's how gullible you are, correct? That's why I call bullshit, until I see something serious.
So you are NOT disputing that Russia is going to interfere with the 2020 election. Thanks for clarifying your thoughts.

Maybe if I number the points you might respond more coherently:
1. If Russia is interfering in our election I want examples so that we can see if the claim is credible. Otherwise its bullshit, like 2016, when no votes were affected.
2. The 2016 interference did not affect any votes, as proof, would any democrats on this USMB switch from Hillary to Trump after seeing the Russian FB ads? Didn't think so.
3. There is ALWAYS foreign interference in US elections. Remember when Ted Kennedy wanted Russian help to defeat Barry Goldwater? It would help if the intel agencies gave examples.

No one can prove whether votes were affected. More importantly, Trump fired his intelligence director for saying TRUTHFULLY that Putin was going to try to interfere in 20. And it's not news. The Times quoted Wray back last summer saying Putin was going to use social media again. Putin loves Trump. Live with it.

Agreed, Russian interference is NOT news, so why even mention it unless you can provide proof and examples?
Do you think that Russia will be the only foreign country that will interfere in 2020?
Exactly right, Wray said last summer Putin was ALWAYS going to interfere in US elections, he's GRU, that's what they do, and it's "not news", as you said.
Its just a democrat talking point.
The report was to a Bipartisan House Committee. And none of us know what was reported. And that is the job of US intelligence. Trump sees this as personal threat. I don't think any

FXN just argued why would Russia want Trump, who increased military spending and is a major pain in their ass, as opposed to Bernie who honeymooned there and would just as soon disband the US military to give free healthcare to everyone? It makes no sense.
It bolsters my bullshit contention because they don't provide examples HOW Russia is helping Trump. Are they giving his campaign secret money? Are they putting goofy FB ads up again? Are they deleting democrat voting rolls in blue states? WTF are they doing, if anything??

Why did he "have to go" just because he gave the Intel Committee a heads up on another round of Russian interference to help Don? That's called doing his job.

More to the point, Grenell is an unqualified hack who was picked for his loyalty to Trump, not his intel expertise since he has none.
You got duped by fake news, Rube.

Well I've read that Trump wants to end all sanctions on Russia, and that would motivate Putin. Imo Trump doesn't view Russia as a threat, because he borrows money from them … as do most casino/hotel builders … and Ukraine is not our dog. And Germany has the money if they want to do something. But he isn't conspiring over the election. But Putin sees a benefit in Trump. Trump could be asked what he'll do, but I don't think he's honest enough to trust with anything. But that's just me.

Bernie's not getting elected. I'm not sure what Bloomberg would do.

Crimea was just stupid. Putin had a legitimate gripe that Ukraine wasn't letting him use what really is a Russian port. But he'd already started a war to protect ethnic Russians whose parents moved to Ukraine. The central question is does America have an interest in not allowing Putin to take whatever he wants of former soviet "republics?"

And the real issue for America is Russia's influence in Iraq and Iran, where we might have real interests aside from serving as Bibi's butt boy.

Good post. A lot to unpack there.
1. Trump added sanctions on Russia and did not reduce any, he can't by law. The sanctions include the EU and are really biting Russia. I'm not sure what Russia needs to do to get them lifted. Get out of Ukraine, including Crimea?? As you say, Russia needs those warm water Crimean ports. No clue how this will end.

International sanctions during the Ukrainian crisis - Wikipedia

2. I'm sure Trump does view Putin as a threat. He sees what they are doing in Syria and east Ukraine. Developing their hyper-sonic missiles, etc.

3. NATO appears to be protecting Ukraine, not just the US. (agree, not our dog)
Trump got NATO to spend more for defense by enforcing commitments, and opposes the EU buying gas from Russia

US says it has thwarted $6billion Russia-Germany Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline - News for the Oil and Gas Sector
Trump blasts Germany at NATO summit over gas pipeline deal with Russia

4. Don't know who Trump borrows from, but that should be a private matter not affecting his presidential actions. I'm sure Putin tries to play Trump, not sure how successful he is or what he's offering. But I'm sure that the CIA has eyes on everything going on. If Trump needs cash he can just sell some holdings like the DC Hotel. He has an extensive organization. The Trump Organization - Wikipedia

5. Agree Bernie is not getting elected. Pretty sure Bloomberg would never get nominated.

6. Crimea was Russia's until Khrushchev gave it to Ukraine in the 1950s. Putin wanted those warm water ports. They had a real fight over whose ships they were during the breakup of the USSR.

7. Good question about former soviet republics. Who wants to go to war defending them? Looks like NATO has Poland and Ukraine. Not sure Putin wants to slug it out with his former states. Ukraine was more than he bargained for.

8. Iraq and Iran are big prizes. Don't forget that China is probably more influential than either side with their "Belt and Roads" initiative.

9. The Russia interference thing doesn't quite add up.
Why the Trump-Russia intelligence report doesn't quite add up

Would you be looking harder if Trump hadn't changed parties?

Russia is looking to help Trump win in 2020, election security official told lawmakers - CNNPolitics

"Last week's briefing, led by election security official Shelby Pierson and first reported by The New York Times, addressed the overall picture of Russia's efforts, including hacking, weaponizing social media and attacks on election infrastructure, one of the sources said."

Foreign interference in the 2020 United States elections - Wikipedia

"Prior to resigning as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen attempted to organize a meeting of the U.S. Cabinet to discuss how to address potential foreign interference in the 2020 elections.

"Mick Mulvaney, the White House Chief of Staff, reportedly warned her to keep the subject away from Trump, who views the discussion as questioning the legitimacy of his victory in 2016.[39]

"Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, has blocked various bills intended to improve election security from being considered,[40][41][42] including some measures that have had bipartisan support.[43][44]

"Election-security legislation remains stalled in the Senate as of February 2020."

Foreign hackers have demonstrated the ability to access voter roles and polling stations. How would you feel if you showed up to vote only to find out your name had been purged from the rolls?

‘Chaos Is the Point’: Russian Hackers and Trolls Grow Stealthier in 2020

"At the Department of Homeland Security, there is renewed anxiety about a spate of ransomware attacks on American towns and cities over the last year.

"The attacks, officials say, revealed gaping security holes that could be exploited by those looking to disrupt voting by locking up and ransoming voter rolls or simply cutting power at critical polling centers on Election Day.

"And while large-scale hacking of voting machines is difficult, it is by no means impossible."

I appreciate the response. But the point remains that all of your "proof" are "possibles" and not "dids".
1. What I want are a list of voter rolls and polling stations that Russia hacked as confirmed by the FBI.
2. I want an example like Mayberry RFD was hacked by Russians and their voter rolls are being held for ransom by Russian hackers.
3. What I don't want is innuendo hinting that Russia wants Trump to win in 2020 with no evidence.
4. The MSM is blaring the Russia hoax again, this time its actually funny.

This is proof. Russia cares more about America than democrats.
Lawmakers Are Warned That Russia Is Meddling to Re-elect Trump

"Under Mr. Putin, Russian intelligence has long sought to stir turmoil among around the world.

"The United States and key allies on Thursday accused Russian military intelligence, the group responsible for much of the 2016 election interference in the United States, of a cyberattack on neighboring Georgia that took out websites and television broadcasts.

"The Russians have been preparing — and experimenting — for the 2020 election, undeterred by American efforts to thwart them but aware that they needed a new playbook of as-yet-undetectable methods, United States officials said."

Too much MAGA?
