GOP: You Have an Immigrant Problem

No, that's just how liberals label the GOP's position, and then sell it to the masses via the media.

Right. That's why in a discussion about immigrants we are suddenly and repeatedly discussing illegal immigrants.

You aren't fooling anyone, especially immigrants.

 A discussion about immigrants??? As someone stated above, legal immigrants don't need amnesty or need to worry about deportation. They aren't the problem.

Spoken like a person with a BRAIN.

The politicians had a good solution to the problem under Reagan.
One time amnesty for those in the country and close the borders to illegals from then on.
The politicians did give amnesty to those here, and then walked away from the closing of the borders. Go figure.....

Before we have any kind of comprehensive pathway to citizenship, we need to close the borders first. If the politicians won't do that, you know they're not serious about cutting down on the illegals.

Reagan got 37% of the Hispanic vote in 1984. He passed amnesty in 1986. George H.W. Bush got 30% of the Hispanic vote in 1988. It's not the amnesty. It's the identity politics put out by the democrats and their minions in the media. The Republicans have never gotten more than 40 % of Hispanic voters because like the Democrats, many Hispanics like that big government gravy train. Look at the number of babies born out of wedlock among those in the Democrat base. Do you really think most of those unwed young women having babies are supporting those children without government help?

5 Reasons Amnesty Would Be Political Suicide For The Republican Party

1) We'd be bringing in a huge influx of Democratic voters. Roughly 70% of Hispanic Americans already vote for the Democrats and you have to expect that the Democrats would capture an even larger percentage of illegal aliens. Keep in mind that for the most part, illegals are poorly educated, have minimal English skills, come from socialistic countries and make a living here doing low end, poorly paid manual labor. The GOP would be lucky to capture 20% of that block of voters.

Now, let's do a little rough math. We don't know exactly how many illegal aliens are in the country, but 10 million seems like a nice conservative estimate. If the Democrats did actually capture 80% of those voters, it would lead to a net gain of 6 million potential new votes for the Democrats. Meanwhile, if only 407,000 votes had flipped from Obama to Romney in Florida (73,858), Ohio (103,481), Virginia (115,910) and Colorado (113,099), Mitt would have won and Chris Matthews would still be on a depression-related leave of absence. In other words, this is like coming up just short in a 100 yard dash and deciding to “fix” the problem by starting 25 yards farther back in the next race.

The GOP's Presidential election defeat is opening up a debate in the party, with more than a few voices saying they are willing to rethink their views on immigration. This is good news, which means it's also a good moment to address some of the frequent claims from the anti-immigration right that simply aren't true, especially about Hispanics.
...

Equally specious is the argument that Latino immigrants come here, often illegally, to "steal" jobs or to go on the dole. If illegal aliens are displacing natives in the labor force, why was there more immigration and less unemployment under President Bush? And if foreign nationals are primarily attracted to our welfare state, how to explain the fact that low-income immigrants are less likely to be receiving public benefits than low-income natives?

Illegal aliens aren't eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and other federal entitlements. But even those low-income immigrants who are eligible for public assistance sign up at lower rates than their native counterparts. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers food stamps, noncitizens who qualify are significantly less likely than citizens to participate.

Over the past decade, the states experiencing the fastest immigrant population growth have not been traditional gateways like New York and California. Latino newcomers have been flocking to Arkansas, Tennessee, Utah, Alabama, Mississippi, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and the Carolinas—states that are among the stingiest for public benefits. ...

Polls regularly show that immigration is not a priority for Hispanic voters, but how border policy is discussed still matters as a threshold and symbolic issue. When Republican Presidential candidates are preoccupied with putting up an electrified fence along the Rio Grande and blaming Latinos (wrongly) for driving up crime, unemployment and health-care costs, we are a long way from Ronald Reagan's welcoming GOP. ...

Hispanic growth in the U.S. isn't being driven by newcomers but by birthrates among those already here. Talk radio hosts could declare the borders closed today to all Mexicans, South Koreans, Indians and any other foreigner, and the voting share of these ethnic groups would increase for decades. Short of deportation, or "self-deportation" as Mr. Romney put it, the minority share of the electorate is going to rise inexorably.

<blink, blink>

That's never going to happen, is it?

Illegals are here and while deportation is up under Obama (I read somewhere around 400,000 illegals have been deported during his first term) really, they're not going anywhere. 400K out of what, 12 million? What a joke.

I propose that illegals not be given amnesty but be given a path to citizenship. Back of the line, fines to pay, and they will never, ever be allowed to vote (nor will any child they have who was born here while the parents were illegal), because there has to be a negative, a punishment, a deterrent for entering here illegally; make it more beneficial to enter the U.S. legally. If illegals do not want to go down this path and choose to remain illegal, boot them; illegal criminals get the firing squad. Ok fine, boot them too. Fine the shit out of businesses who employ illegals, jail time for repeat offenders. Before any of that, secure the borders. Tightly.

No, Del, I don't think they should fight the democrats. I, for one, think that the republicans should stand aside and let the dems do whatever they want, no fights or battles. What happened a week ago isn't going to change any time soon in the future for the GOP. The only way it changes is if one side implements their policies to the fullest and the populace sees what happens and as a result are educated thru reality versus propaganda and lies that come from both sides. Do you think the country goes somewhere good with the democrat party completely in control?

So your plan is that they should just "talk"reform? And yes, it's the gravy train. I'm so tired of people in this country not being able to deal with actualities. Do you think if Democrats didn't push their support for social programs that they would have the support that they do?

And we should be surprised why? The Republican Party has done nothing other than to demonize these people. They are here to stay whether we like it or not. We better find a way to make certain they have all the same opportunities as White America. Whites just don't get it; the vast majority of Whites have a very big advantage from birth over minorities. Those are just the facts. If you think being born Black or Hispanic to welfare parents gives you the same chance at success as the White child born to middle class parents living in the suburbs, you're off your rocker.

Funny how some people fail to understand how illegal immigration drives down wages, but then again if health, education, and public assistance, are guaranteed then one can work for less, and expand the ranks of underemployed to your advantage.

Obama claims to hate colonialism for the simple fact that it takes resources from one country for the benefit of another without due compensation and yet he subscribes to the destruction of the wage earner (resource of this country) by providing open un controlled boarders and undocumented voting rights to everyone for political power. When one belittles the unemployed and in essence treats the legal American worker as resource he is in fact promoting the concept of colonialism by replacing raw material for human labor.

Im fine with the idea that illegals are denied the right to vote for a period of time, say until all fines are paid etc etc.

However, we allow convicts to vote, denying someone and their children the right to vote forever because youre worried about who they will vote for is totally unacceptable. I can't believe we are actually discussing it.
