Obama's 'Government Motors' company producing more layoffs....
....this 'green' car is about as popular as Obama's 'recovery'.....

General Motors Co. said it plans to suspend production of its battery-powered Chevrolet Volt for 26 days as part of a move to pare excess inventory.

Production of the Volt at its Hamtramck, Mich., plant is set to stop Sept. 17 and resume on Oct. 12, a GM spokeswoman confirmed. It is the second time this year output has been idled due to soft demand for the electric vehicle.

GM will use the downtime to prep the assembly line for building the 2014 Chevrolet Impala starting early next year, the spokeswoman said. The plant already produces a small number of the Chevrolet Malibu sedans and the European version of the Volt, known as the Opel Ampera.

About 1,400 hourly workers will be affected by the production suspension.

Just like Obama and his "stimulus". If it doesn't work the first time do it again.

The Volt is a well made car which, thanks to the propaganda of the Republican party..has gotten a great deal of bad press. One car..caught fire after rigorous government tests..and Republicans had a field day with it.

The other electric cars..like the Leaf..are doing much better.

Good job Republicans.

Buy Japanese!

Here is a bit about the battery fire:
In response, manufacturer GM released a statement which urged Volt owners not to worry because the fires – which spokesman Greg Martin say have not been duplicated since the incidents in May – occurred days after a crash and not on impact. The company additionally pointed out that, unlike the Volt, gas-powered vehicles are at risk of catching fire immediately after being damaged.

I guess those Union workers didn't open their own wallets and buy into their electric buzz car either.

Why would any real American want an auto that gets us more interdependent from imported fossil fuel to fail? Are there really so big a Klan of scumbags amongst us?

The Volt was NOT a well made car, does not appeal to what most Americans want in a vehicle, and is impractical as hell.. and if it were not for the US government using tax dollars to incentivize the piece of shit, even less would have been sold

volts and little Leafs are for little ole ladies....

guess they got their uses...not too bad for short little trips under 20 miles one way in a warm climate....but a bicycle could do almost as well.....and is a whole lot greener....

Ah yes, those slow EV's.

Welcome to Plasma Boy Racing, home of White Zombie, the world's quickest street legal electric door slammer in the 1/4 mile drag.

Now this is what a local fellow has done with a 1972 Datsun. Given the advances being made in battery technology, a large company that would design a car with four wheel hub motor drive, could make a soccer mom van that would blow the doors off of a Dodge Viper.

The only reason we are dependent on imported fuels is because morons have made it take an act of God to tap into our own. And as for the Volt... Some of us want our vehicles to go further than that failed technology allows.

You mean electricity?

You can thank the Pentagon for wanting to keep our fuel while we burn others.

Of course they will blame FOX but two mornings in a row, Eric Bolling drove a Volt from his home to NYC. Both times it died in the Holland Tunnel having gone about 25 miles max both times. Naturally he could not get it restarted. He showed the actually footage on T.V. It had to be towed out of the tunnel.

Sorry - I own/tow a boat and a camper. I also require 4-wheel drive and Horsepower when I travel off road into remote areas to hunt, camp and fish.

A sissy-assed Prius, Volt or "Impala" doesn't do it for a man.

Sorry.

You limp-wristed Libberhoid pussies can line up to buy those GM pieces of shit.

Oops I think I mistakenly called the Volt a Prius the other day just saying. Who of scene this coming? $40k puddle jumpers lol only a government would tell a company to produce unwanted products.

The Volt does not have a large demographic. It's for people who live in houses with garages or at least someplace to put in a charging station.

Not at all a failed technology, just a very expensive one at present. As the ICE was for the first 20 years of it's existance as a technology.

The EV will be the future in personel transportation. For two reasons. First, as the battery technology gets better, it will be cheaper to build than the ICE's, second, the homeowner can provide his own fuel with a set of solar panels, as well as power his home.

And there is a third advantage as well. As the technology build better and higher energy density batteries, as the vehicles begin to store 100+ kwh of energy, that will serve as an emergency backup for powering one's home in the event of a failure of the grid.
