"in the wink of a young girl's eye...glory days, glory days". Bruce could have been singing about Woodward and Bernstein...two has-beens well past their mid-life crisis and longing for the fame they pissed away. As an aspiring journalist in those years, I saw what they did to a sitting president for political revenge and walked away from it. And here they are trying it again on a different Republican while having ignored the last 8 years of the most corrupt White House in our history. They'd become the role models in a once-proud profession when journalists didn't live in million dollar homes and clink champagne glasses with the political class they were supposed to be bird-dogging.
Back when news rooms were smoky and loud with ringing telephones and typewriters. Real journalists looking to purge the booze they drank for lunch so they could do it again at happy hour, trying to trip up the con artist politicians sitting next to them. Multiple sources were required then, or the city editor would stare at you and ask what kind of bullshit you were handing him. Screw the deadline and the missing headline...if you didn't have the goods, the paper wasn't going to print it and if it kept happening, you'd head back to the minor leagues down on a weekly in Dixie until you learned your trade...not anymore. Bottom line?...never trust a celebrity reporter...they're all liars and they always believe they are the story.
