I haven't been following this thread, but this is an excellent post. (I wish USMB would inform you when someone has replied to your post.)

Ah Gee, more of this darn truth is getting in the way of our dreams of Global Warming!

Damn. Do you ever bother to read actual scientific papers? Had you done so, you would have seen that one of the predictions is that the center of Antarctica will cool for a while, and the outer peninsulas will warm. The models also forecast a net gain in ice for Antarctica because of more precipitation inland. While the precipitation is happening, the melt elsewhere is outpacing the accumulation, and Antarctica, like Greenland, is losing ice.

allow me to translate:

one of the ways we're covering our ass on this global warming scam is by saying that there will be a cooling period before the earth fries to a cinder. please, send us all your money. we can't do anything about climate change, but we're hoping to scare you into believing we can if you just give us all your money. thanks for your anticipated cooperation.

Well no, since you obviously don't know shit from shinola, you are not allowed to translate. And nobody at all, with any brains, said that there would be a global cooling before the warming. What was said was, because of local conditions, that the models predicted a cooling of the interior of the Antarctic continent with an increased accumulation of snow and ice. But what we are seeing, is a melting of the ice, by the Giga-ton, and an actual warming of most of the continent. Like the melting of the North Polar Cap 50 years ahead of the predicted rate, this is an unpleasant surprise.

As for the rest of your scurilious screed, you are just one pretty goddamned stupid and ignorant individual, and, apparently, determined to stay that way.

thanks for your input. there's nothing scurrilous about the truth, which you wouldn't recognize if it grew fangs and bit you on the ass. if the climate is changing, there is NOTHING we can do about it. this doesn't mean we shouldn't do our best to be environmentally aware, conserve, etc, but buying into this scam, as you obviously have, serves no one but its perpetrators.

i hope you enjoy the thrill of righteous indignation it gives you, though. obviously, you're a pretty small man and need it.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

glad to see you have some company over there on the far lefthand side of the bell curve, kirky.

IPCC is not alone in its conclusions. In recent years, all major scientific bodies in the United States whose members' expertise bears directly on the matter have issued similar statements. For example, the National Academy of Sciences report, Climate Change Science: An Analysis of Some Key Questions, begins: "Greenhouse gases are accumulating in Earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise" [p. 1 in (5)]. The report explicitly asks whether the IPCC assessment is a fair summary of professional scientific thinking, and answers yes: "The IPCC's conclusion that most of the observed warming of the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations accurately reflects the current thinking of the scientific community on this issue" [p. 3 in (5)].

Others agree. The American Meteorological Society (6), the American Geophysical Union (7), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) all have issued statements in recent years concluding that the evidence for human modification of climate is compelling (8).

I thought I told Old Cock to fuck off a long time ago. He's still running around here with his holier-than-thou attitude? I guess he has nothing better to do. Al Gore must have fired his male hooker.

Here's a new thought, or theory, that most environuts won't like.

The earth itself is a living organism .. at least many believe so. We can agree that most of the earths resources actually come from rain forests. Rain forests need warmer temperatures to thrive, tropical weather patterns more specifically. Perhaps the planet is evolving to support the life it has by warming up so that the rain forests can thrive in more places, thus cleaning the atmosphere and providing larger amounts of oxygen for the species that require it. Let's just suppose this is the case, then stopping it would actually not help us, but allowing it to happen would increase our resources vastly to accommodate our species' increasing population while increasing our chances of finding better and more resources for fuel and sciences (primarily medical) without harming the current limited rain forests.
