As long as were a country with 2 reining parties, were never going to get anywhere. It will continue to be Tit 4 Tat. We need something more like a 5 party system, to mix it up a little, so that we can move forward.

Members of both parties will just continue to toe the party line, you know it, and I know it.

"A HOUSE DIVIDED CANNOT STAND"

A five party system would be better for the USA because of all the diverse people and cultures. Either we are, or were not, the melting pot of the world.

why not a "no Party" system....back to our roots where whoever came in first became president and whoever came in second became vice president, regardless of party affiliation, if any?

A viable third party would be enough.

If no one party every had a super majority then we'd have to see some actual work get done to pass a bill instead of the straight party line votes that we get now.

What's your suggestion? Kill off everyone in one party?

The problem with the system is public primaries. Membership in a party is a private concern and the selection of a nominee should be done privately.

Flush hundreds of Republicans AND Democrats from the US Congress in November 2012 using already established third parties like the Greens and Libertarians.

It is impossible for any fundamental change to occur in this country when both major parties depend on the richest 1% of the population for the lion's share of their campaign donations.

Fix campiagn finance laws on the federal level, and make damned sure that the State laws surrounding registration and party affiliations are honest (right now they're designed to make third parties hard to get on the ballot in many states) and the TWO party system might easier morph into that five or more party system.

That's the only way that I can see this lock on politics getting broken.

But the duelopoly has the hammer when it comes to such reforms and so far all they done is make it easier for themselves to stay in power and easier for their masters to buy them off legally.

Frankly I hold not hope that any meaningful reforms challenging the ONE PARTY pretending to be TWO PARTIES system.

How much effort would it take for million of American voters (especially those who don't usually bother with voting) to go into the polls in November of 2012 and vote AGAINST every single Republican AND Democrat on their ballot?

That's not realistic. In fairness BOTH PARTIES.
Neither one gives a shit about anything but big corporations.
You pay for the parties but.......you're not invited.

Any one of you who thinks that "Giddin them thar demcraps out" or " Removing the republicans from power" is going to make any difference whatsoever you are a brainwashed asshole.
There is no 2 ,3 ,4 party system. It's one. The elites. Let me guess. Barry is smoking a doob with Paul McCartney and McCain and his wife are having dinner with Oprah tonight.
The 2 party sham is to keep you idiots divided and confused.

As much as I hate the two parties, there is little that we can do to change this issue as far as I see it and remain America as we know it. One thing we seem to pride ourselves on is freedom of association. As long as we are going to do that there is nothing we can do to stop all the corrupted morons in Washington from banding together in the particular parties of choice.

Those morons tend to go with the organizations that they think will bring them the best chance of winning as winning is all that matters and right now that means either the Democrats or the Republicans. As long as voters support those two parties and only those two parties then we are stuck with those two parties and only those two parties.

You cannot legislate a three or five party system and still remain the land of the free. This has to be the will of the people. If we won't make it difficult for these parties to win, then politicians will continue to flock to them and we will always have just a two party system.

The following as taken from Dictionary.com

Communism: a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

Totalitarian: of or pertaining to a centralized government that does not tolerate parties of differing opinion and that exercises dictatorial control over many aspects of life.

Marxism: the system of economic and political thought developed by Karl Marx, along with Friedrich Engels, especially the doctrine that the state throughout history has been a device for the exploitation of the masses by a dominant class, that class struggle has been the main agency of historical change, and that the capitalist system, containing from the first the seeds of its own decay, will inevitably, after the period of the dictatorship of the proletariat, be superseded by a socialist order and a classless society.

Socialism: a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Capitalism: an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

Imperialism: the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.

I may be wrong here, but does not all the above sound like their one in the same, but under different guises? That each and every one of these has just a little part that pertains to the mechanism of America.

It seems they all pertain more or less to a 1 party system, or a 2 party system that in all actuality is a 1 party system.

Again I present to You, the Haves and the Have Nots.

Just a small example of what I'm trying to say

You have the Husband and Wife, they are 2 seperate party's, but come together to act as 1 when dealing with their children.

I think having only two real viable political parties is a natural result of the single-member district plurality system in place. People dont want to vote third party because they believe that person will not get enough votes to win and/or hurt the chances of the person they kind of agree with while benefiting their ideological foe. If we want anything other than a two party system it would require a radical and fundamental change in our system of governance (major constitutional amendment).

2 party system? You are dreaming. There is only one party. The corporatist party represented by lobbyists doles out money to both the Dems and GOP and the stupid Americans think there is a difference. The multinational corporations only care about Americans as consumers for Chinese trinkets and the sale of gasoline.

What you THINK you want is irrelevant. What you can do about it is even less. Most Americans are TOLD what to think. You are lulled into a coma by the constant media droning playing to your pathetic Christian Fundamentalist or "liberal" hopes. You only need ONE enemy to focus on. That's the minimum requirements to keep you distracted and that is all "they" will provide to keep your mind polluted and your wallet accessible. Nobody(THEM) wants to kill the golden goose(YOU) out right...just keep you hungry and angry.

we don't have a 2-party system

unfortunately the top 2 parties are juggernaughts and all the other parties are lightweights

before the dems and repubs took control of the PARTY SYSTEM there were numerous parties on the ballot

and you can still create your own party and add it to the party list

I find it an odd coincidence that the Dems and the repubs are aligned and polarized by the colors they wear, exactly as the crips and bloods are.

That should be instructional.
