Germany sets record for single day energy use – 50 percent comes from solar
The Fraunhofer ISE research institute has announced that Germany set a record high for solar use on June 9—on that day the country's solar power output rose to 23.1 GW—50.6 percent of all electricity demand. The record occurred over a holiday, which meant less demand, but it still marks a major step forward for the world's solar power leader.
Despite not having a generally sunny climate, Germany has been pushing solar energy—but not from the huge solar farms seen in other countries. In Germany, the focus has been on rooftop solar collectors mounted on homes, businesses and buildings of any other kind. Currently, over 90 percent of mounted solar panels in the country are on rooftops. The country broke two other records around the same time, producing 24.24 GW of solar generated power between 1 and 2pm on June 6, and over that entire week, the country produced 1.26 TWh of electricity from solar power. In stark contrast, recent reports indicate that solar power makes up just 0.2 percent of total energy production in the U.S.

I think it is interesting none the less. Would be wiser if they'd keep the nuclear up to have something to fall back on. Should build 3-4 more nuclear plants... I feel solar is a good energy source for peak demand during the day. ;)

Here's a good example of a story you'll never see on FOX News.

That's because it only happened for a couple hours. And in the realm of meaningful power generation design --- it's pretty damn meaningless.

Furthermore -- Documents from Fraunhofer show the TYPICAL percent of solar to be less than 20% of generation on previous days in May..

Not really news, just propaganda.

That is all bullshit. GW are not GWh. It may be that around 12 a.m. the solar panels produced 23 GW for 5 Minutes, but then that was it. Moreover, this peak generation has to be given away to neighbouring countries because we are not able to throttle down the conventional power stations proportional to the generated solar power. Actually we pay other countries to take this fidget power, otherwise our grid would break down. Which it did already a few times in several regions, also thanks to the birdshredders. A bit more of all that and we will have the most expensive electrisity on the planet with the quality of a third world country.
For every few of this solar farms or birdshredders we have to set up backup power stations with gas turbines to step in if there are some clouds, night comes or the wind slows down. And they have to run on stand by all the time. A technological masterpiece nightmare.
Fucking ecology religion.

Last winter they had to revive an old crude oil power station in Austria to supply south Germany, otherwise the lights would have gone off. And not only the lights.

You are a fool if you believe any German propaganda.
