FTC vs Devry University

But we, the tax payer can? What happens when we can't anymore? Then what happens?
We didn't sign up for that loan.
Why forgiveness from the govt when the institutions should have to pay it back?
Actually, Trump and DeVos have worked to overturn rules that would allow student loan forgiveness for students who were screwed over by these types of institutions.

They can't pay it back when they are out of business like ITT Tech.

Nope, it is the governments responsibility to make sure these colleges to adhere to government standards. When these colleges do not, and they use government loans in order to take money from students, the students are just pawns in the scam, and thus shouldn't be held responsible for those loans.
After a quick perusal of the constitution... I was unable to find any reference to education standards... Could you provide a link showing the govenments responsibility to a person's individual higher education? Don't worry... I'll wait.

Really? You think all laws are in the Constitution? No wonder you make so many dumb posts on here.

And you think the tax payer, rather than the individual and the companies should get off scott free. You want to advocate all responsibility to the govt (tax payer) rather than those that are responsible. Your line of thinking is what is wrong with the world today. Hold no one responsible for their own actions. 'If you screw up the govt will bail you out'.
I'm sick of the responsible picking up the tab of the irresponsible.
I was taught when if I am irresponsible I am responsible for my actions, and have to pay.

And you expect people that are defrauded of money that came from the government, to pay for being pawns in a scam by publicly traded companies. Do you even understand that for-profit colleges are owned by publicly traded companies? I guarantee your opinion would change if you were being held financially responsible for tens of thousands of dollars in college loans while holding a worthless degree from a for-profit college that no longer exists.

Tough shit. Should have invested that borrowed money better.

Once again... wrong. Any time a person signs for a government student loan, they should be able to expect that the college that is getting the loan money meets government guidelines, and thus is a credible institution.

Wrong. When you decide to borrow money from others; you ought to be doubly careful where you invest it, lest your lenders come to call. That's like telling a loan shark to eat the loss because you were dumb enough to blow it at the casino.

DeVry Refunds

It seems the government may begin cracking down on 'for profit' schools. Let's hope the institutions that prey on those seeking an education are forced to repay all federal student loans when found to be deliberately misleading people.

DeVry is a good school, more legitimate than diploma mills like Harvard. Oh, you balk at that? See if ANYONE in the last 30 years has been dismissed from Harvard who paid their tuition? You pay, you pass.

DeVry has actual standards, something the left can't stand.

July 2017
FTC RETURNS MORE THAN $49 MILLION TO DEVRY STUDENTS

The FTC’s settlement with DeVry included $49.4 million to provide partial refunds to eligible students. Checks were mailed on July 5, 2017.

According to the FTC, DeVry’s advertisements made deceptive claims about the likelihood that graduates would find jobs in their fields and earn more after graduation than those graduating with bachelor’s degrees from other colleges or universities.

Cut out ALL federal aid. let diploma mills like Harvard and Yale make it on merit. Not ONE dime to Nazi fucking Berkeley. I'm all for legitimate education. I HAVE a legitimate education. Not some Ivy League "You're the son of who? So we bought a diploma," but a doctorate I actually worked for...

This isn't investing, and there are GOVERNMENT rules regarding colleges who can receive GOVERNMENT loans. Therefor it is up to the GOVERNMENT to make sure these institutions are meeting those GOVERNMENT rules. The perspective student does not have the same tools as the GOVERNMENT to make sure these colleges are meeting those guidelines and that the information they are giving the student are factual.

Worthless? Not worthless, unless the school they signed up for was worthless to begin with, which means they failed to do their homework to find that out before they signed. And if they were legit, the fact their doors closed does not delegitimization that degree.

Of course, the government must ensure that transgender ideals are promoted and dangerous ideas like the US Constitution are censored.

You are? When a college is given accreditation it means it meets GOVERNMENT standards and guidelines... it is up to the GOVERNMENT to make sure these colleges continue to meet those.

How were they screwed over? They were lied to about job placement rates, and many students across the country were left with debt and no degrees when the colleges shut down. They were also lied to about their credits being able to transfer to other colleges.

So, students must be guaranteed jobs by schools? Thousands of state universities turn out students who later can't get jobs, should these also be held to the standards you impose?

What makes a good school? Accreditation by a regional authority, and actual academic standards.

DeVry is a good school, the attack by the left because they are for profit is obscene.

If you read the complaint, Devry made claims they could not back up: they claimed to have 90% job placement in the field of study for their students that graduated AND claimed their students were earning more than those that graduated from other institutions. Both are lies and were proven to be by the Federal Trade Commission. Had it not been true, then why did Devry agree to pay over 10 million in fines and to forgive ALL private loans they gave to their students?

Oh, I'm white and not a celebrity or child of a politician.

So are you good with ending ALL federal money to ANY higher education?

I am, let the schools compete on actual merit.

You'd never go for that, you KNOW the leftist schools provide shit educations. PULL is the only thing that gets a Harvard grad through.. On actual MERIT, they couldn't touch a DeVry or University of Phoenix student, and we ALL know it. The Ivy Leagues are about being in the Aristocracy, nothing more. It's who your daddy is, not what you can demonstrate on a test.

Morons like Dubya and Ted Kennedy are set for life, due to pull.

Defund the corrupt bullshit that has destroyed higher education and intellectual curiosity. Tax payers are literally supporting the creation of Oligarchs who are dunces.
