What Nazis are you referring to? What American traitors?

If your reference is the Civil War, the Confederacy and the statues which are a current issue, please be advised that the Civil War was just that -- a Civil War in which Americans fought against Americans. It did not involve invasion by foreign forces. It was a rebellion, a tragic conflict of brother against brother which should stand in our collective memory as the greatest mistake in our history. So please do not put forth an implicit comparison between our massive internal conflict and our wars with the Third Reich and the Empire of Japan.

Robert E. Lee was an American. He chose his side in a great internal conflict. He and his side paid the price, which does not cancel the fact that he was just as much an American as was Ulysses S. Grant. So his statue should stand as a respectful reminder of a tragic period in American history.

PS: I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and the only feeling I have about the Civil War is regret.
