Some 30 years ago I was on the baseball card hype. For some reason I bought up all the football cards I could get.Nobody wanted them back then.I once went to a card shop and bought em for 10 cents each.Beautiful 1957,58,59,71 and 72 Topps cards.I priced them a few weeks ago and they are worth thousands of dollars.

I deal quite a bit in sports cards and collectibles and unfortunately if very many of your cards are in the same shape as the Staubach, they aren't going to be worth thousands of dollars. Your collectors that are going to spend very much money are going to want cards that are graded and in mint to near mint condition. Another problem is that these days a lot of collectors are out to get signed limited edition rookie cards that are new to market. For example, a Patrick Mahomes' rookie card is worth more than some of the greatest players of all-time.

The only real chance you are going to have a very expensive card is if you have a Tom Brady rookie in perfect condition.

I only used that card as an example. My cards look like they just came out of the wax pack.9's and 10's.

To get top dollar you'll still need to get them graded. The market is very soft on ungraded cards due to the number of reprints, counterfeits, and difficulty getting a high grade.

How many times did you hear "Why are you wasting your money on that stuff?" :auiqs.jpg:

Those places charge you like a realtor does.By the value of the card.

Not worth a shit. Not sure if I should sell the bulk of mine on ebay or keep or burn..

Ehh, they got stats n stuff on them. I keep.

30 cents for a Dan Marino? Bahh, fuck you.

Edges and corners are roughed up on your Staubach. That really brings the price down. I have some Mickey Mantles that would be worth a pile of money if they weren't beat up like they are. If your other cards have sharp clean edges and a nice finish you may have something.

Where do you suggest the best place to sell them?

I have a complete set of Topps "Mars Attacks!" cards from 1962. Protected all through the years and appraised about a decade ago at a minimum of $40,000. Of course, sales are always dependent upon what the current collector's market is paying. Unlike Burton's film, the cards were serious as a heart attack and tres-graphic for the time. They were distributed for a limited time only on the East Coast. Kids went crazy over them, but parents complained.

A good way to save yourself some time and money is to use a top sports card eBay consignment specialist. Of course they are going to tell you the same thing I did. Yes it will cost you money out of pocket to do, but you will get the most money out of cards that have been graded.

For example this PSA Gem Mint 10 Montana Topps RC sold for almost $15K

Joe Montana 49ers HOF 1981 Topps #216 Football Rookie Card Rc PSA 10 Gem Mint | eBay

But a raw one in "Excellent condition" sold for $120.

A Topps full 1987 set is worth less today than it was 30 years ago. That whole market really tanked.

When I was a kid baseball cards were 5 cents a pack.7 cards and a big piece of gum.
