Food stamps or junk food stamps?

And the family who only needs a little help once in a while isn't going to have a problem with that, because they are workers who are used to paying for what they consume. They can use the $400 to bulk up their larder with staples, and spend their own money on edible fripperies.

Wonder if SNAP would cover these?

Its candy, so i guess it would.

Yes it would.

It also covers lobster.

Lobster is considered healthy though.

So what's the problem now?

First it was unhealthy "junk" food...now there's a problem with lobster?

Poor people on food stamps shouldn't be buying lobster...why?

Because it's more or less a waste of their benefits to use that much money on just a lobster tail? Now we're deciding their budget for them as well?

When does it end?

The point being, regulating commerce isn't the same thing as regulating what people are legally allowed to eat... which was the clear implication of the OP

sorry mani... but taking soda out of vending machines IS the government telling us what we can and cant eat.

Careful now, you seem to be tripping over your own fail.

First you say the government is already dictating what we can and can't eat.

Then you say you didn't say that, when you clearly did.

And then upon having this pointed out to you, you defend the same ludicrous hyperbole that you wrongly insisted you didn't say in the first place.

Having a rough day are you?

The government is dictating what we can and cant eat in SF. So following that, why not do the same thing with food stamps.

I am saying they can BUY what ever they want with their own cash if it is not covered with food stamps.

Can you point out the statute that says you're not allowed to drink soda in SF please?

I didn't say they shouldn't buy lobster. I said you could buy lobster with fs.

It's about $38/lb., according to the market.

2 lbs for 2 ppl...that's $76 of your $367 monthly allotment.

I was getting the impression that since you brought it up out of nowhere, it was because you had an issue with it.

Yeah, it's certainly a waste of their limited funding, but who is it hurting besides themselves if they waste it?

If they want to enjoy a fabulous surf and turf dinner on September 1st and live on Ramen the next 29 days, so be it.

I just bought lobster last week at the supermarket for $5.99/lb.

Not sure where you're getting $38 from.

I live in the sticks, we don't even have lobster. I was basing that on my last recollection of what it cost......

What you bought was previously FROZEN slipper tails.

Fresh Maine lobster rarely runs under $30 a lb.

Bullshit.

Both of them were still alive and kicking.

What you're talking about is likely restaurant prices.

 funny how outsiders are telling us what Maine Lobsters sell for

btw, if anyone sells you a "Maine Lobster" that is over 3 lbs, they are NOT likely to be selling actual Maine Lobsters
