An analysis by Breitbart News has found that the number of individuals on food stamps now exceeds the combined populations of 24 states and the District of Columbia.

In November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that a record 47,102,780 individuals receive food stamps.

According to US. Census Bureau data, that figure exceeds the combined populations of: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Since January 2009, the number of individuals on food stamps has skyrocketed from 31.9 million to the current record high 47.1 million. By comparison, in 1969 just 2.8 million Americans received food stamps.

Last year, the food stamp program (officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) cost taxpayers $72 billion, more than double the $30 billion spent four years ago.

Would you feel better, personally, if all those recipients simply did without?

I'd personally feel better if they were all able to work and didn't need food stamps, however this administration seems hell bent on keeping them on stamps.

There is an obvious need for food stamps but the fact that there is no lifetime limit on collecting food stamps started way before Obama took office.

Over 47 million Americans on food stamps under the Obama regime...Wow..

Qver 23 million unemployed

You'd think he would have won by far more votes...

Bush did fuck us all. Obama took that ball, and ran with it towards the endzone of complete destruction!

And if the private sector won't provide them, we raise taxes like FDR did and have the government provide them.

Economist Robert Higgs compares a "stimulus package" to getting water out of the deep end of the swimming pool and dumping in the shallow end — all with the expectation that the water level will rise. As he emphasizes, economists should never tire of asking where the money for stimulus is going to come from. Mankind has yet to invent a machine to create it out of nothing: it's either taxing, inflating, or going into debt that has to be paid later (and crowds out capital creation now). There is no other way. "

.

Over four years ago, when do the Democrats take responsibility?

Not a democrat.

Bush and the Federal Reserve Board caused the major depression. When Obama took over during his first term , the economy had hit rock bottom..

But typical fascist, Obama did exactly what FDR did in 1935, thereby prolonging the recession.

.

Then you would know that this last recession was started over 80 years ago. We rode bubble after bubble, Congress after Congress of screw ups, the Republicans didn't start this recession, just as the Democrats didn't, it was a culmination of two party's running us into the ground.

The only reason I said what I said before, is that if people want to blame one party or the other, then they need to take responsibility for cleaning it up. Which still hasn't happened yet.

Exactly.

The recession began in 1913 when the congresscritters created the Federal Reserve Board in order for it to control the economy and the credit.

The consequences were the great depression of 1935, the subsequent declaration of bankruptcy by the federal government and its abandonment of the gold standard.

We never recovered from that.

But Bush increasing expenditures by invading AfPak and Iraq, reducing tax revenues and an incompetent Bernanke .

The dollar was savaged by the monetary policies of the Federal Reserve. The Fed's policies were designed to coincide with Bush's Middle East Crusade. They were supposed to work like two wheels on the same axle. The administration believed that, by 2007, the military would need only 30,000 or so troops to maintain security in Iraq. That would give Bush's legions the chance to turn east and push on to the next target-state, Iran. If things went according to plan – and no one thought the high-tech US war machine could be stopped – the US would control two-thirds of the world's oil. This would allow America to keep writing bad checks on green paper for the next century.

Work may be a four letter word but there is no dishonor in it.

Do you have any idea how many of those people collecting food stamps ARE working? This is what happens when you have a minimum wage that has the lowest spending power in history. We, the taxpayers, are in effect supplementing the wages for corporations like Walmart. They refuse to pay their employees a living wage, so their employees qualify for assistance which we the taxpayer provide.

A living wage: enough for a cheap apartment, clothes, food, housing, utilities, medical care and transportation for one person.
