Flooding in Miami is no longer news — but it’s certainly newsworthy
By Philip Bump August 4

This was the scene in Miami Beach earlier this week.

QuoteThe problem was twofold: A heavy downpour, thanks to a dissipating tropical storm, combined with the onset of high tide just after 4 p.m. But, really, the problem was threefold. Those high tides are higher than they used to be because the ocean itself is higher than it used to be.
A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration gauge at Virginia Key, just off the Miami shoreline, had an average sea-level height from 2012 to 2016 that was about 4 inches higher than the average from two decades earlier. At Lake Worth, a bit further north on the coast, there has been a similar increase since the mid-1980s. A gauge near Naples, Fla., saw a jump of about six inches from the early 1980s to the most recent five-year period.

wow, florida's screwed!

Flooding has always been a problem in South Florida. As kids we used to paddle small skiffs in the streets after a good rain storm. Little has changed:

Nah.......we heard this crap 20 years ago. Nobody is caring.:bye1::eusa_dance::eusa_dance:

When you see new members who come in who are prone to the hysterical, you will notice that it gets to be an OCD thing with these people. We all know the type...........you see them at wakes throwing themselves on the casket. You see them in the supermarket before a 6" snowstorm loading up 3 baskets of food and supplies. They are the types that see a shark sighting at the ocean 100 miles down the beach in the newspaper and don't go to the beach for the rest of the summer.

Snowflakes I think you call them..........................

ghey

Here is the full video of the South Florida Flood Control District made in the 1950s:

Why all the hysteria now? Too funny.

Anyone who has lived in Florida knows this:

"Flooding is one of Florida's most frequent hazards. It is a coast to coast threat that can occur at any time of the year."

Why does this happen - an example:

"Due to the relatively flat terrain across Florida, it is complicated to drain accumulated water. When rivers rise, water tends to spread out far from riverbanks. In the case of the 1997-98 El Niño floods, rising rivers and repeated periods of heavy rainfall combined to pool water over land miles away from rivers. In fact, normally small rivers turned into vast lakes."

"Pooling of water poses a significant risk, not as much from swift moving water, but more from one’s inability to judge water depth. Water only inches deep can be next to water that is several feet deep."

Floods

Increasing population levels in South Florida have added to the problem and this, not supposed rising sea levels, is the real risk for South Florida.

.

There are a lot of suckers out there who have been duped just because somebody terms something as "science".............

The OP clearly being one of them........but one who also tends to the hysterical in life. The combination - k00k.
