First big primary day of 2014

Clay Aiken is in big trouble in NC in November. If he survives the primary. He finished second on American Idol and second on Celebrity Apprentice and will finish second here. He had tons of ads on local TV and radio and yard signs all over the place. Never seen or heard any ads from his primary opponent at all. Not one. And Aiken only won by 372 votes.
I don't think Aikin will be taken seriously. He'll have NO ability to represent anyone, having never served in any capacity whatsoever.

A shot in the Foot.

a defeat for the Tea Party is a victory for America ... but not so much for the Republicans who still
need their vote in November.

.
I can never understand statements like that ^ . The TP stands for lower taxes, smaller govt, and the Constitution. How is that not good for America?

I think we have a lot of socialists and globalists in this country, even Marxists, fighting for BIG, all encompassing govt. Not at all what our founders or the Constitution set up for us.

I like the Constitution. It's the best govt ever created. Socialism has NEVER worked, and all forms of Marxism - haven't either. People just suffer under tyranny and starvation, eventually.

Why do people still think those oppressive, failed forms of econ/govt can work. :cuckoo:

They never will.

Do you mean the NC rep sen primary?

Tillis is actually just about as "Tea Party" as his two Tea Party opponents were and I suspect he will tack even harder to the right to try to win the election in November.

Yeah, the actual differences between Brannon and Tillis is actually very small in policy terms.

Tillis may actually be the more bold conservative of the two honestly.

GOP - Trumps Tea Party

well they have a Tea Party candidate just not as an endorsement ... rather the ingredients for Animosity that may snowball into two separate and not mutually agreeable electorates.

I want to challenge that, and vigorously.

First, it may be that TPers say they are for less taxes, smaller government and the Constitution, but at the end of the day, most TPers who have been elected have focused themselves very heavily on extremist RW social issues and much less on financial issues.

I also want to remind that not only TPers stand for the Constitution. You write as if they are the only ones. They are not. In fact, I bet that most TPers don't know but a small percentage of the Constitution. Me? I have it loaded on my phone and I carry a HARDCOPY of the US Constitution in my work bag. I bet I have read the entire Constitution many more times over than most all TPers.

So, if the TP was really only about fiscal responsibility (and I bet this will surprise Bloodrock44 a lot), I would probably be attracted to it. But, unfortunately for the TP, for good or for bad, too many leaders within the TP movement have proven themselves to be bigots, racists and even a couple are diehard anti-semites, and that besmirches the movement terribly. Now, part of this is because the TP is not a uniform party, but rather, a loose band of many small, individual TPs from state to state, even from county to county.

But the fact is that the demographic makeup of the TP, from age to race to social mobility, looks like an identical twin to the extreme Right-Wing of the Republican Party.

And I got news for you: we are all socialists, to some extent. In the moment that we allow a government that taxes and then distributes, then we have some form of socialism. Social Security, Medicaire/Medicaid are both oases of socialism floatiing within a massive sea of capitalism, and it has worked quite well.

I like the Constitution, just like you. But the Constitution is not a form of Government, it is a document. A form of Government is made of of people who adhere to the ideas they set forth in their founding documents. The Constitution is not a Government, it is a blueprint, and a damned fine one. But it is also not perfect and the proof of this can be seen in the 1st ten amendments, which were immediately tacked onto the original document. Were the Constitution already perfect, then there would never have been a need to have 10 amendments immediately following the ratification of the original document!

But I do agree with you that Marxism never works. There is, however, no Marxism in play in the United States. So, your point?

Statistikhengst I am not a fan of the Tea Party. I am not a fan of the Republican party. I am not a fan of the Democrat Party. I loathe both parties. I am disgusted with both parties. Politics is a dog and pony show. Oneupmanship. Who can score the most political points and make the other party look bad. When will Americans wake up and vote in politicians who can work together for the GOOD of America? Until then, we deserve what we get.

I don't care to which party they belong. I care that they get the job done.

I don't think Aikin will be taken seriously. He'll have NO ability to represent anyone, having never served in any capacity whatsoever.

Aiken's primary opponent died in a fall at his home today. Aiken only beat him by 372 votes.

Oh, that is horrible news.

As for the margin, I remind, a win is a win is a win. Once the primary is over with, that doesn't matter.

But Aiken is not likely to win in this deep red district, anyway.
