Feds to shut down concert season

Actually it wasn't. If you were up to speed on this you would know that.

Thanks for the link with evidence toward that end.

Actually if you weren't a total partisan hack moron you would know that.

I'm not a partisan. That's why I opposed the health care bill, voted for Romney in 2008, support strong immigration policy, support individual gun rights, support state rights, and opposed the bailouts, all while supporting gay marriage, a reasonable social safety net, and individual abortion rights. But if you weren't yourself a total partisan hack moron, you'd know all that.

Why should musicians get a free pass on destroying the rain forest? Oh because they sing some stupid song. Please. Lock them up, throw them in jail, cut their hair and make them get a real job!

There is probably a part somewhere on your car that was made in China in a dubious shop that probably violates some international law.

Therefore we must confiscate your ride, throw you in jail and cut your fucking hair. You criminal scum.

Don't be stupid. Educate yourself. This has nothing to do with the rainforest.

The entire premise of the government's argument is that the wood to make the instruments comes from India and is legal to make instruments out of this wood in India. If the instruments were made in India, it would be perfectly legal to have them here. Only instruments made in America are illegal. Which is why the government told Gibson if they wished to continue making instruments they should move to Madaascar.

Gibson should move out of the country. Take those jobs with them and go. One more loss to the American economy.

Correct, it's preventive maintenance, however the fact we are even having the discussion of its possibility in the United States of America speaks volumes.

Speaks volumes about what? There is a law in place, there have been violations of that law, and various members of the federal government are now involved in ensuring that public policy will be set out to protect the integrity of the law while also protecting the interests of innocent citizens. If it speaks volumes about anything, its the fact that the USA is a great place to live.

It's a dumbass law. I'd think legislators would be expending effort on removing assinine, bs laws like this, instead of amending this abortion to establish special, exempted groups.

On another note, I can't help but wonder whether you'd be talking about the Law and violations of the law requiring appropriate enforcement to maintain the law's integrity if we were discussing illegal invaders?

The law shouldn't exist in the first place, that's the point, and if you think this kind of nonsensical regulation over a few trees in Madagascar that turns non-threatening people into criminals is what makes the United States a great place to live then it's time to take off your jack boots, pull your head out of your ass, and start breathing some fresh air.

Why shouldn't the law exists? All it does is ensure that imports into the US do not violate the export laws of other countries. Why is that a bad thing? Why would we want the US to be a mecca of global black markets?

You obviously prefer the US be a mecca for Mexican drug cartels.

It wouldn't surprise some of us if Gibson did just that. And the Feds just can't figure out where all the jobs went...or why they went...

Gibson should leave. Take the government's advice and go. I notice that a lot of companies that are leaving are also taking key employees with them. Before too many more years go by, the US not only will be lacking industry, but a workforce as well.

At least the best qualified and most skilled workforce will be siphoned off.

No law was being violated. You would know this, of course, were you up to speed on the topic.

Obviously you aren't up to speed on the topic. The wood used was illegally harvested. As such, importing and selling it in the US is a violation of the Lacey Act.

Oh, I'm quite current with it. You see, there have been no arrests, no charges, no fines, nothing. Just he said, she said.

Really, you need to just stop now.

Another loony has joined the crowd of imbeciles.

This is simply a witch hunt to punish Gibson guitars and make their sales go down. The Obama-ites hate Gibson because Gibson moved from union-thug Michigan to union-free Tennessee so they could be profitable. So the Administration has targeted them. Note they are not going after Martin Guitars even though they use the same sources for their wood.
Personal vendettas fueled by politics is the signature of the Left. We can't vote these morons out fast enough.
You must spread more rep before....

You forgot a key word: Yet.
It's been three years since Gibson was raided by armed agents.

Meanwhile, union shops in other states who buy the same wood have not had their doors kicked down.

This isn't about enforcing the law. It's about punishing companies who aren't union.

Of course you guys would make it about unions. Did you ever think that perhaps Gibson fucked up? Maybe they tried to circumvent the law....maybe something was wrong with the paperwork on the purchasing of that wood? Of course, it couldn't be anything like that. It has to be some stupid conspiracy theory.

No, it is strictly about unions. Gibson moved from unionized Michigan to non union Tennessee. And the unions demand payback. Notice that Martin, in the same line of business with the same suppliers hasn't been touched.
