I'm about tired of executive orders. I've been that way for a long time, no matter who is president. Why do we allow a president, any president, to issue decrees as if they were a dictator, bypassing Congress? And, it seems like under both Biden and Trump, they don't seem to give a damn whether they are legal or not. They just do it anyway and leave it up to the courts decide later, which could wind up being a long time. We either need to eliminate them altogether or redesign them so that a president can't issue decrees all by himself like a dictator. It's ridiculous.

Yeah..it sucks. It's a by-product of a dysfunctional Congress--Presidents get frustrated by grid-lock and are pressured to 'do something'. So they do something illegal..but makes a great soundbite..Like DACA, as an example. ...Or building a wall..LOL!
Examples are plentiful on both sides..since once someone gets away with it..the pressure to match the move is irresistible.

The attraction of Fascism has always been the ability to 'get things done'. Make the trains run on time...fix an economy....homogenize your population, etc., etc., etc..

To note.........Obama promised the Hispanics that he would address immigration with one of his first actions. He had the House and Senate to do this. He did nothing. The democrats did nothing. After Hispanics turned on him he issued an EO years later.

His words meant nothing. He was not willing to actually put in the work.

EO's are the realm of the lazy. Politicians not wanting to put in the effort to pass a law.
It goes way beyond that. It is about getting your way. If you know Congress won't pass what you want, you just bypass Congress. And, compromise is simply out of the question because both sides purposely stake out such extreme positions so that when they "compromise" they wind up getting what they really wanted in the first place, which means neither side will compromise with the other side, knowing that the other side is doing the exact same thing you are doing.

One thing Trump actually wanted to do is trade DACA and immigration reform for building a wall in order to start fresh but neither side was willing to do it.

George Washington used the EOs to build Washington, D.C. He was given the authority to ensure that Hamilton or some of the anti-federalists did not FUBAR the capitol trade-off for Constitution ratification.

The three co-equal branches of government aren't so co-equal.
  1. A sole president with almost unlimited power, especially when a democrat.
  2. A congress which has no power to prosecute or enforce laws, always ham-tied struggling within itself to do anything, except when democrats control it all.
  3. A supreme court which no one ever hears from except maybe once every year or two when brought into a decision.
  4. The rest of the government acts like a 4th branch, like the EPA which no one elected, has no legislative power, yet somehow creates endless rules and regulations all by itself.
Maybe a good idea would be to allow the president TWO EOs---- one a year. And these are graded by non-partisan agencies based on constitutionality and efficacy for the nation (not impose undue cost vs. benefit). So long as his EOs are graded B- or higher, he gets a 3rd and 4th EO privilege his last two years. If they fall to grade C, then no more than two EOs per term. That way, a president would use them judiciously and make sure they really count.
