Examining an Ancient Pre-Trib Rapture Statement

Sigh. Cyprian, Irenaeus , and other Church Fathers were talking about their days of persecution and tribulation not about the future.

There is no doctrine of The Rapture developed before 1830, but if it gives one comfort, act today as if the world ends tomorrow. You will be fine then.

Why doesn't Dr. John Gill qualify?

Because Dr. Gill is not talking about The Rapture as you understand or as Tom Ice or Dr. LaHaye believes that it was taught in the Scriptures.

Gill's terminology for rising of the living Saints to join the Saints who have passed before is not The Rapture as you understand it.

Go read Dr. Gill in his entirety, and you will see that Ice and LaHaye are picking words but not the meaning of Gill.

Tim LA HAYE...OF LEFT BEHIND FAME.....?
CAN YOU SAY :eusa_liar::cuckoo::eusa_liar::cuckoo:

Daws, This is what Irenaeus had to say about rapture:

"This event was also an indication of the fact, that when the holy soul of Christ decended to Hades, many souls ascended and were seen in their bodies, so, when the word of God became one with the flesh, by a physical and hypostatic union, the heavy and terrestrial part having been rendered immortal, was borne up into heaven, by the divine nature, after the resurection." :)

Can you provide any supporting information to support your position?

Dr. Gill was not amillennial. "Till the thousand years are ended" is an interesting statement. Why rapture people at the end of the tribulation only to bring them back again? It makes no sense.

to meet the Lord in the air; whither he will descend, and will then clear the regions of the air of Satan, and his posse of devils, which now rove about there, watching all opportunities, and taking all advantages to do mischief on earth; these shall then fall like lightning from heaven, and be bound and shut up in the bottomless pit, till the thousand years are ended:

-Dr. John Gill's commentary on 1 Thessalonians 4:17 on Biblehub

1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Dr. Gill would have been talking about what? Rapturing the dead? The verse is talking about "...we which are alive and remain" not them which are dead.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Our pre-wrath position makes more sense.

2. The fact that John Nelson Darby invented the pre-tribulation rapture doctrine around 1830 AD is unquestionably true. All attempts to find evidence of this wild doctrine before 1830 have failed, with a single exception: Morgan Edwards wrote a short essay as a college paper for Bristol Baptist College in Bristol England in 1744 where he confused the second coming with the first resurrection of Revelation 20 and described a "pre-tribulation" rapture. However Edwards ideas, which he admitted were brand new and never before taught, had no influence in the modern population of the false doctrine. That prize to goes to Darby.

I found the article interesting. I think you will have to prove Morgan Edwards was confused. Someone who writes that much usually finds their confusion.

once again, any thing is possible in fantasy...
