The madness never ends.
Even the Bottom of the Grand Canyon is Now Contaminated
By almost any calculation, the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon is one of the most isolated places in the contiguous United States. Although about half a million people a year hike Grand Canyon trails, only a tiny fraction of them make the arduous trek to the bottom, almost a mile from the surface.

One might think that this inaccessibility protects the river’s unique ecosystems. But that’s wrong, says David Walters, lead author of new research conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey. "Pristine doesn't really exist in the world anymore,” explains Walters, “even at the most remote reaches of the Grand Canyon.”

Conservation has become a bad word to 50% of the U.S. It's a tragedy that we have the capability to develop technology that can preserve our ecosystems, but so many fight tooth and nail against that technology.
6 1/2 years, and it's trashed...

Thanks, Libs...

I think that's what she's saying. Her life sucks and it's President Obama's fault.

So did you LEAP to the conclusion that this contamination is somehow due to evil companies, consumerism or benign neglect? Or do you realize that mercury and selenium naturally leach out of rocks ANYWHERE in the feeders to or the main river. Not only that -- but dam and reservoirs prevent the seasonal scouring that would naturally flush the canyon.

Article says the toxins are being carried by algae from Lake Powell. That's a theory and start. YOU OTH just want to call it madness and make yourself pure as morning dew by looking pious and superior.

Actually David -- I was keying off the first line of your OP.. "The madness never ends"..

Does that not imply some devious man-made plot at the bottom of all this??

Because otherwise --- it would just be a matter of forensic investigation and science -- no "madness" need apply.

RIGHT??

"The madness" is referring to the almost constant stories and discoveries regarding pollution, hazardous waste, climate change effects.. Both man made and natural. Then again, neither of us truly know the main cause at this point for the incident above.

There would be TONS of MORE attention on REAL pollution, hazardous waste and all the other IMPORTANT eco-issues if the GWarming monster wasn't CRUSHING the entire environmental movement in the media and politics. Can't even get a word in for sea turtles nowadays UNLESS --- Global Warming is somehow part of their plight..

The circus of exaggerated claims and dishonest media coverage is sucking all the oxygen out of enviro issues.
One of the principle reasons I hate the dishonesty of USING Global Warming as the cause of every eco issue..

Confused why you think it's funny that Global Warming has squashed all the traditional eco concerns that you mentioned. People are sapped out from the massive propaganda campaign for GWarming. Makes a JOKE out of real pollution. IN FACT --- the socio-politico leaders of the GW cause have PURPOSELY confused CO2 with pollution in order to brainwash folks that they are one and the same.

Bet you think THAT dishonesty is funny too..

Then you probably ought to stop doing so, eh?

You deniers are the ones who try to tie every issue to global warming. Just look at this thread as an example. It's the same with every other thread. No matter what the environmental topic is, deniers immediately start whimpering about global warming.

It seems to be an organized plot by deniers to sidetrack every environmental conversation with rants on global warming. The key is to ignore them and just go back to whatever it is that deniers clearly don't want people talking about.
