CAIRO, (PIC)-- The Egyptian government has invited de facto Palestinian president and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas to visit Cairo next Wednesday to discuss Fatah faction's view regarding inter-Palestinian reconciliation, director of the Palestinian studies center in Cairo Ibrahim Al-Dirawi said on Sunday.

He added in a press statement that Abbas's visit to Cairo follows a similar one by a senior Hamas delegation to the Egyptian capital during which its members explained the movement's position regarding reconciliation and ending the internal rift.

Dirawi said that current efforts are focusing on means of restructuring the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in a way ensuring representation of all factions in the PLO and settling the security issues still pending between Fatah and Hamas before going to parliamentary and presidential elections called for by Abbas.

He said that Cairo wished to hear from Abbas his position regarding those issues before hosting a meeting between the two major factions in a bid to end the division.
