Democrats have been giving black people the means and the opportunity to succeed since LBJ. His programs cut poverty in the USA in half.

Republicans don't want black people succeeding, gaining power or voting so of course they tell their supporters lies about these very successful programs. Does more need to be done? Yes but black people go backwards when Republicans are in office and thrive under Democrats.

There is significant black leadership at all levels of government that didn't exist before LBJ, and they are forming coalitions to raise up their own communities. Take a good look at any meeting of Democrats.

Giving workers government subsidies is not sound economic policy. Every $1 of assistance costs the government $1.50 because of the costs of administraiton of these programs, and it increases the size of government and YOUR taxes. At one point every taxpayer in America was contributing $2500 in wage subsidies to Walmart employees even if you never set foot in their stores.

Last but not least, if living wages are "unsustainable" why is every other first nation in the world able to pay their workers living wages, universal health care and a quality education? American corporations are booking record profits and wages, as a percentage of cost, are lower than they've been since the Gilded Age. This economic model is not sustainable.

Living wages aren't "optional". Without a thriving and successful middle class, a capitalist economy cannot survive. The American middle class is declining. As is American life expectancy. These are signs of a nation in danger.
