African Africans and Black Latin Americans want to play baseball. Black Americans in the US have largely chosen not to play baseball. That is not the fault of MLB or white America. What are the numbers of Black Americans that flock to the Negro League Hall of Fame? Stop blaming US because you don’t like baseball. For the minorities among Blacks who love baseball, we baseball fans welcome you with open arms and you should be reaching out to Dusty.

Across the board, regardless of race and ethnicity, pickup baseball died a generation ago. We played in the early 80s sometimes with a full 9 on each team or modified with 4-5 on each team.

While pickup baseball has died in the US, it is alive and well in Central America and Caribbean Nations. Back to Dusty’s comment, many people lament that participation and interest in baseball in the US from Blacks has declined. I remember in the mid- late 80s, a couple of our rival high schools that were heavily Black American, dominated the conference in Football and Basketball. Come springtime, those that were playing baseball hated it and were only doing it because the Athletic director begged them so they would have a team.

In fact, there are far more white players in baseball than there are blacks. It is simply a fact. It is no one's fault, just like there are few black hockey players.

And there are far more black players in the NBA and NFL. and yet no coach would dare publicly ask that there be a study, or money thrown at the "problem".

Dusty is correct but it can’t change from a band-aid approach. The culture has to be changed and that takes generations.
MLB has been trying for decades to lure blacks back to baseball but the fatherless culture and the natural lending of black skills to basketball and football have undermined baseball.
Several schools in my mostly black suburban school system have had difficulty even fielding teams. Schools with a >2k enrollment.

MLB teams have camps in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, etc, to identify and develop talent that can be fed into their minor league systems and brought eventually to MLB. Trying to do the same in Dim run inner cities would result in robbed and murdered scouts.

MLB tried a failed initiative several years ago to attract blacks. It was called ‘RBI’, reviving baseball in inner cities. It failed because blacks don’t just live in inner cities anymore and this initiative doesn’t first fix the culture.

There has been a steady decline of white players over the years in both the NBA and the NFL, so a white coach/manager could make the same claims about declining #'s.
The point here is simply that a white coach isn't free to publicly speak about it like a black coach or manager is.
