Our founders were indeed liberal in their day. The pushed the Envelope of freedom. However any honest comparison of them, to todays parties. Leaves one with no choice but to decide that our Founders, By todays standards, Would be classified as Libertarians, not liberals.

They wrote the constitution precisely to limit the Power of Government, to assure personal Freedom. They envisioned a government that governed as little as possible. They damn sure would have never supported Massive Federal Government solutions to problems. They would be the ones saying Government is not the answer. That we need to keep government as local as possible, and not have an all power fed that can bully the states to it's will.

In fact they would probably suggest another Revolution if they saw what the Government they created had become.
