How expensive do you think gasoline would be if we didn't have access to foreign oil? Tax breaks that AID FOREIGN OIL PRODUCTION.

That's the point here. Fossil fuels are widely consumed in part because prices are artificially low due to market distortions from government policy (and the fact that people don't generally pay for the externalities at the pump). You can argue whether that's desirable or not.
 
If fossil fuels are artificially low, then alternate fuels are hyper artificially low.

Government has done a great deal to make fossil fuels more expensive. Not allowing exploration and drilling in ANWAR and in shallow waters which forces oil companies into more expensive and less safe areas, is one example. Federal and State taxes per gallon are higher than oil company's.

I'm fine with the government giving up social engineering and punitive taxes on fossil fuels and ending subsidies as long as this is applied equally across all industries.
