Do a large number or guns deter the mass shooter?

I don't really know, but what I do know is I can find no evidence of any mass shootings carried out at gun shows, in gun shops, at firing ranges, at gun clubs or at hunting lodges. Is this because almost everyone in those places is armed or is it just a coincidence? I don't know, but I'm sure the liberal socialist left wingnuts will be able to tell me why this is.

The main factor is the cause of the violence. You have to look at the pathology of the mental state of the shooter to determine the "reason" he(usually) wants to perform the act.

Mass shooters tend to plan out thier attacks in advance. The shooters often have elaborate reasons for thier outburts, even if it doesnt make sense to the rest of us.

Looking at most mass shootings the one main common denominator has been thier occurance at gun free zones. Thus one might be able to conclude these types of shooters prefer areas where they know they can cause maximimum carnage before a response can occur.

If this is the reason for choosing these areas, then most mass shooters would avoid gun shows, just as they would avoid police stations.

I'm not for gun control.....but the thread premise is destroyed by the fact that mass shootings have happened on military bases.

Sure by gunning down unarmed personnel. The military was not permitted to carry weapons on base. That was changed in Afghanistan when incidents of lone gunmen open fire on unarmed military members. Now they are allowed to carry their weapons. The military should be allowed to carry weapons in the US as well as Afghanistan as the carnage carried out by Nidal Hassan effectively shows.

I looked at your link. I can't find an incident in which the robber survived. It seems to be not so much as robbery being a motive, but suicide being a motive.

Lol, there are more than 500,000 armed robberies in the US yearly, with approx half of them occuring on the streets and highways of the nation so even if your example showed one example, which by the way it doesn't show any successful armed robberies of either gun shops or gun shows. it is nowhere near any proof that gun shows and gun shops suffer armed robberies often sorry try again.

Statistically, an extremely high number of people who attend gun shows will be involved in gun violence -- suicide, homicide, injury, or accidental death of a child playing with a parents gun.

Jeez you are dumb. The facility was secure, with armed personnel AT THE PERIMITER and on patrol throughout the facilility. It took the response of two armed people (one was wounded and disarmed) before the killer was stopped, because the soldiers were unarmed on the base.

However the doctor in question BROKE REGULATIONS and entered armed.

Once again laws supposed to protect us failed, because criminals dont follow them.

Well except for that pesky fact that on a military base almost all weapons are locked up in armories. Only MP's those on the range and Armed guards in a couple locations have firearms available on them at any one time. In fact if one is aware of where the armed guards are a Military base is the safest place to use a firearm on the unarmed captive audience.
