Diving Into The Democrats’ Dirty History

To start with, the author claims the party WAS NOT founded by Thomas Jefferson as they claim. It was hatched in Tammany Hall as an offspring of Aaron Burr. This is a complete damnation of the party with cite after cite of voter fraud, corruption, and downright criminal activity.

Let them. The foulest mouth of any president in modern times was owned by Lyndon Johnson, who was quick to call African-Americans the N-word both behind their backs and to their face. Hillary takes no back seat in her verified language either. She reportedly used that N-word while in the White House and reached the bottom of her personal barrel when she called an employee a “f—king Jew b——.” But that is just the surface. The much-praised 1964 Civil rights Act was made necessary because Democrats, in the first place, in the 19th and 20th century enacted Jim Crow laws that overturned Republican-supported legislation after the Civil War that was meant to protect freed slaves from unjust treatment. Let Democrats wear this around their neck till the cows come home that not one — not one — Democrat voted for the 14th Amendment that assured equal protection for former slaves. Kentucky’s Democrats didn’t get around to ratifying the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, freeing slaves, granting civil rights and the right to vote, until 1976. The nerve of these Democrats!

This extensive editorial and book push is @ Diving Into The Democrats' Dirty History and well all know the Leftists will refuse to go there t read it. Nothing new.

If your grandfather was a serial killer, how much of his guilt would come down to you?

I'd say the stunned silence in response pretty much kills the OP's idiotic argument.

The Southern Whigs owned slaves, and when the party died out to free soil movers it changed to the GOP....Yet the old Whigs, still owned slaves and when the Civil War erupted, the GOP members stayed in the South as slave owners....There were Northern democrats that did not own slaves, and one became the vice president under Lincoln....So much for a one sided propaganda piece by right wingers that try to hide their past...

Right On!!!

There are other things they would like to forget too:

"Watergate was a major political scandal that occurred in the United States in the 1970s, following a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. and President Richard Nixon's administration's attempted cover-up of its involvement."

The Republicans dirty history is that after helping pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act- the GOP then went on to nominate for President Barry Goldwater- who prominently voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Martin Luther King Jr. then pointed out to African Americans that the GOP owned Barry Goldwater's opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Act- and recommended that African American voters not vote for the GOP.

Quoting Martin Luther King Jr.:

The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism. All people of goodwill viewed with alarm and concern the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of the KKK with the radical right…

On social and economic issues, Mr. Goldwater represented an unrealistic conservatism that was totally out of touch with the realities of the twentieth century. The issue of poverty compelled the attention of all citizens of our country…

On the urgent issue of civil rights, Senator Goldwater represented a philosophy that was morally indefensible and socially suicidal. While not himself a racist, Mr. Goldwater articulated a philosophy which gave aid and comfort to the racist…

In the light of these facts and because of my love for America, I had no alternative but to urge every Negro and white person of goodwill to vote against Mr. Goldwater and to withdraw support from any Republican candidate that did not publicly disassociate himself from Senator Goldwater and his philosophy.

Meanwhile of course Democrat Lyndon Johnson had been in large part responsible for the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

MLK's words regarding Goldwater could equally be applied to Trump today.
The Dems began to change much earlier than Goldwater and his states rights. It started under FDR and, more importantly his wife Eleanor. Together they pushed polices that appealed to Blacks and Northern white liberals. By Goldwater's time there were essentially two Dem parties, northern and southern. When Goldwater raised the Southern Dems cry of states rights they began the move toward the, more welcoming party, the GOP.

Certainly- the GOP nominating Goldwater was just the nail in the coffin for their relationship with African American voters- and a signal- as MLK Jr. pointed out- to Southern Democrats to join the GOP.

The Democratic Party started with Andrew Jackson.

A slave owner par excellence and an Indian hater.

If only the GOP had stayed true to their values.

But by the time you nominated Goldwater, the GOP had already had a record of voting with Southern Democrats

During the 1860s, Republicans, who dominated northern states, orchestrated an ambitious expansion of federal power, helping to fund the transcontinental railroad, the state university system and the settlement of the West by homesteaders, and instating a national currency and protective tariff. Democrats, who dominated the South, opposed these measures. After the Civil War, Republicans passed laws that granted protections for African Americans and advanced social justice; again, Democrats largely opposed these expansions of power.

Sound like an alternate universe? Fast forward to 1936. Democratic president Franklin Roosevelt won reelection that year on the strength of the New Deal, a set of Depression-remedying reforms including regulation of financial institutions, founding of welfare and pension programs, infrastructure development and more. Roosevelt won in a landslide against Republican Alf Landon, who opposed these exercises of federal power.

Pretty spot on.

Prior to FDR, the African American vote was strongly Republican, as a reaction to the events after the civil war- of course most of those votes were in the North- as Southern African Americans were largely disenfranchised.

During FDR's administration, often due to the hard work of Eleanor, jobs were opened up for African Americans and other measures were taken that convinced many African Americans that Democrats represented by the Northern Democrats better represented their interests.

Put it another way- in 1925 African Americans were solidly Republican, and Southern whites were solidly Democrat.

50 years later it was almost exactly reversed.

The dividing line was the 1964 Civil Rights Act- and the GOP nominating a Presidential candidate who voted against it.
