Without the Republicans there is only one other option in a two-party system, unless you are Independent with a Democratic Party running mate or something like that.

Michael Steele was a direct result of Barack Obama becoming President. Republicans felt that they needed to have a black to point to and say "See? We can put blacks in power too."Michael Steele. But you see what happened with him.
