Day 42: What has he done?

And to date nothing has improved, what's your point? Granted Obumer did not cause the blowout, but he is responsible for solving it, his own words, and to date no improvement....

He has been slow to act, and this once and for all proves he lacks leadership skills, have you seen that picture where he is kneeling down on the beach touching the sand in suit pants? Jeans, maybe dockers? I thought he had better handlers than this, his term is toast.....

Oh and the cherry on top is sending Holder to investigate criminal charges against BP, Transocean, Halliburton & Cameron....didn't he just tell us BP was in charge of stopping this?

This will be an enormous mess to clean up, and politically we will pay a huge price not only at the pump, but in the thousands of by products generated by oil.....

But your list of so called facts have left a lot to be desired, all sides suffer in this tradgady....

He will go down with Wilson, Johnson & Carter as failures....

It is Obama's responsibility to try as hard as he can to fix the problem.

He's not Aquaman, he can't summon whales to swim up the pipe to block it.

He's not a magician who can summon millions of magic bunnies instantly into the pipe to block it.

He's not Superman, and he can't uses his heat vision to seal the breaks in the pipe.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and World War II wasn't won in a month.

If you're so damn pissed, then why aren't you telling the rest of the oil industry to kick in with their equipment and help fix the problem? Once your precious corporations fuck up royally, you want momma government to jump in and make it all better, but otherwise "Hands Off", right?

Conservatives have no moral center and no principles besides hating. That's why they think it's OK to lie and curse. After all, if you were powerless conservative dweeb who just lost the White House and Congress, you'd be angry too.:lol::lol::lol:

That's why you won't see any of them with any ideas on what Obama could do. That would require some thought, and thought is above their pay grade. Besides, the idea that oil companies should be held accountable for their mistakes is just too complicated for their ugly little heads.

It seems odd that Obama would initiate a criminal investigation against a company that has been given the responsibility to stop the leak. If the Obama White House suspects BP of being guilty of crimes - why place the responsibility of stopping the oil leak in criminals' hands?

Add to that the distraction of time and resources BP will now be engaged in defending itself from a criminal investigation at the same time it is tyring to stop the oil leak and it gives a great deal of credence to the charge that the Obama administration has treated the oil spill as a political problem, and not an environmental and safety crisis against the United States - a terrible disservice by the Obama White House against the people of the Gulf Coast...

Why would it seem odd that the Obama administration would open a criminal investigation into this case?

BP has had a total of 760 willful, egregious safety violations in the past 3-4 years, compared to Sunoco's 8 and Exxon's 1.

Seems like there's some probable criminal negligence here.

And it seems to me that the fact that criminal charges may be at stake here will make BP try to fix the issue all the more, to lessen public opinion against them before a jury pool is completely and utterly biased.

and yet the government inspectors and regulators on board THE RIG who were RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSIGHT APPROVED THE DRILLING OPERATION TO COMMENCE!!!!!!!!!

Keep whining!!!!! The oil's still flowing.

...and if the crisis isn't already pretty bad, why not sit on your hands until it comes to full bloom?

Isn't is just the hugest coincidence that... "The time has come, once and for all, for this nation to fully embrace a clean energy future" (????)

Great timing, huh? :eusa_whistle:

Bankrupt them, jail them, do whatever you want. Hell, they might even deserve it, who knows? But Barry will be ALONE on that ballot in 2012, and when people go to the polls to voice their opinion on the state of the union, when hundreds of miles of our gulf coastline are oiled and littered in dead wildlife and dead livelihoods... BP's not going to be there, in the voting booth, to take the blame.

He's fucked. He's USED this crisis to forward his crappy, socialist agenda.

It is difficult to consider that a president would utilize such a horrible crisis to further a political agenda - but as you have implied, the president's inaction and willingness to push for his "green energy" agenda does make such consideration possible...

Reports now indicate the oil leak could go into December.

And the beat goes on...

It is difficult to consider that a president would utilize such a horrible crisis to further a political agenda - but as you have implied, the president's inaction and willingness to push for his "green energy" agenda does make such consideration possible...

What has this guy done that isn't driven by his socialist agenda? :eusa_eh:

It's not at all difficult for me to believe that he and his operatives were thoroughly enjoying the "spill, baby, spill" of it all. That is, right up until people noticed that the federal government wasn't moving with anything even approaching competence in addressing the problem.

Given the history of this administration forcing its goals down our throats, it's logical to assume that he's 'not letting a good crisis go to waste'. Frankly though, I think he's bitten off more than he can chew here. If even ONE internal memo shows up on the scene proving that he dragged his feet... he won't even last out his term. He'd have to resign in disgrace or face impeachment and removal.

Here's what bush was doing the day Kartrina hit NO

Think Progress KATRINA TIMELINE

11AM CDT — BUSH VISITS ARIZONA RESORT TO PROMOTE MEDICARE DRUG BENEFIT: “This new bill I signed says, if you’re a senior and you like the way things are today, you’re in good shape, don’t change. But, by the way, there’s a lot of different options for you. And we’re here to talk about what that means to our seniors.” [White House]
4:30PM CDT — BUSH TRAVELS TO CALIFORNIA SENIOR CENTER TO DISCUSS MEDICARE DRUG BENEFIT: “We’ve got some folks up here who are concerned about their Social Security or Medicare. Joan Geist is with us. … I could tell — she was looking at me when I first walked in the room to meet her, she was wondering whether or not old George W. is going to take away her Social Security check.” [White House]
8PM CDT — RUMSFELD ATTENDS SAN DIEGO PADRES BASEBALL GAME: Rumsfeld “joined Padres President John Moores in the owner’s box…at Petco Park.” [Editor & Publisher]
8PM CDT — GOV. BLANCO AGAIN REQUESTS ASSISTANCE FROM BUSH: “Mr. President, we need your help. We need everything you’ve got.” [Newsweek]
LATE PM — BUSH GOES TO BED WITHOUT ACTING ON BLANCO’S REQUESTS [Newsweek]
Here are some of the Fed and bush "responses" to Katrina on the day after it hit NO

Quote:
11AM CDT — BUSH SPEAKS ON IRAQ AT NAVAL BASE CORONADO [White House]
MIDDAY — CHERTOFF CLAIMS HE FINALLY BECOMES AWARE THAT LEVEE HAS FAILED: “It was on Tuesday that the levee–may have been overnight Monday to Tuesday–that the levee started to break. And it was midday Tuesday that I became aware of the fact that there was no possibility of plugging the gap and that essentially the lake was going to start to drain into the city.” But later reports note that the Bush administration learned of the levee breach on Aug. 29. [Meet the Press, 9/4/05; AP]
PENTAGON CLAIMS THERE ARE ENOUGH NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS IN REGION: “Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita said the states have adequate National Guard units to handle the hurricane needs.” [WWL-TV]
MASS LOOTING REPORTED, SECURITY SHORTAGE CITED: “The looting is out of control. The French Quarter has been attacked,” Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson said. “We’re using exhausted, scarce police to control looting when they should be used for search and rescue while we still have people on rooftops.” [AP]
U.S.S. BATAAN SITS OFF SHORE, VIRTUALLY UNUSED: “The USS Bataan, a 844-foot ship designed to dispatch Marines in amphibious assaults, has helicopters, doctors, hospital beds, food and water. It also can make its own water, up to 100,000 gallons a day. And it just happened to be in the Gulf of Mexico when Katrina came roaring ashore. The Bataan rode out the storm and then followed it toward shore, awaiting relief orders. Helicopter pilots flying from its deck were some of the first to begin plucking stranded New Orleans residents. But now the Bataan’s hospital facilities, including six operating rooms and beds for 600 patients, are empty.” [Chicago Tribune]
So people were dying and looting in NO, and the Navy has a ship just sitting there and Chertoff admits that he is just learning about the levees being breached. The White House knew about it but they didn't tell the guy in charge of security and they left a ship just floating around doing nothing and the Pentagon says they've already sent enough NG members to NO. And bush is giving a speech about Iraq.

But, later in the day it gets even better!!

Quote:
2PM CDT — PRESIDENT BUSH PLAYS GUITAR WITH COUNTRY SINGER MARK WILLIS [AP]
BUSH RETURNS TO CRAWFORD FOR FINAL NIGHT OF VACATION [AP]
People are dying, and bush plays his guitar. Now let's look at bushs wonderful response two days after Katrina hit:

Quote:
1:45AM CDT — FEMA REQUESTS AMBULANCES THAT DO NOT EXIST: “Almost 18 hours later, [FEMA] canceled the request for the ambulances because it turned out, as one FEMA employee put it, ‘the DOT doesn’t do ambulances.’” [Wall Street Journal]
11:20 AM CDT — FEMA STAFF WARNED BROWN THAT PEOPLE WERE DYING AT THE SUPERDOME: Three hours later, Brown’s press secretary wrote to colleagues complaining that Brown needed more time scheduled to eat at a restaurant: “He needs much more that (sic) 20 or 30 minutes. We now have traffic to encounter to go to and from a location of his choise (sic), followed by wait service from the restaurant staff, eating, etc. Thank you.” [AP]
FEMA requests ambulances that don't exist, and Heck-of-a-good-job Brownie is worrying about his lunch schedule while people die.

But it gets better

Quote:
PRESIDENT BUSH FINALLY ORGANIZES TASK FORCE TO COORDINATE FEDERAL RESPONSE: Bush says on Tuesday he will “fly to Washington to begin work…with a task force that will coordinate the work of 14 federal agencies involved in the relief effort.” [New York Times, 8/31/05
Two days after the disaster, and bush finally realizes there's a problem. And what does he do....NOTHING but "organize a task force"

Quote:
CHERTOFF “EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE RESPONSE” OF THE GOVERNMENT: “We are extremely pleased with the response that every element of the federal government, all of our federal partners, have made to this terrible tragedy.” [Department of Homeland Security]
EARLY AM — BLANCO AGAIN TRIES TO REQUEST HELP FROM BUSH: “She was transferred around the White House for a while until she ended up on the phone with Fran Townsend, the president’s Homeland Security adviser, who tried to reassure her but did not have many specifics. Hours later, Blanco called back and insisted on speaking to the president. When he came on the line, the governor recalled, “I just asked him for help, ‘whatever you have’.” She asked for 40,000 troops.” [Newsweek]
4PM CDT — BUSH GIVES FIRST MAJOR ADDRESS ON KATRINA: “Nothing about the president’s demeanor… — which seemed casual to the point of carelessness — suggested that he understood the depth of the current crisis.” [New York Times]
7PM CDT — CONDOLEEZZA RICE TAKES IN A BROADWAY SHOW: “On Wednesday night, Secretary Rice was booed by some audience members at ‘Spamalot!, the Monty Python musical at the Shubert, when the lights went up after the performance.” [New York Post, 9/2/05]
8PM CDT — FEMA DIRECTOR BROWN CLAIMS SURPRISE OVER SIZE OF STORM: “I must say, this storm is much much bigger than anyone expected.” [CNN
Two days of mayhem, and bush officials are still expressing surprise while others go to Broadway

Quote:
7AM CDT — BUSH CLAIMS NO ONE EXPECTED LEVEES TO BREAK: “I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.” However, as former FEMA Director Michael Brown told CNN, “the president knew from our earlier conversations that that was one of my concerns, that the levees could actually breach.” [Situation Room, 3/2/06]
CONDOLEEZZA RICE VISITS U.S. OPEN: “Rice, [in New York] on three days’ vacation to shop and see the U.S. Open, hitting some balls with retired champ Monica Seles at the Indoor Tennis Club at Grand Central.” [New York Post]
STILL NO COMMAND AND CONTROL ESTABLISHED: Terry Ebbert, New Orleans Homeland Security Director: “This is a national emergency. This is a national disgrace. FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control. We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans.” [Fox News]
2PM CDT — MAYOR NAGIN ISSUES “DESPERATE SOS” TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: “This is a desperate SOS. Right now we are out of resources at the convention centre and don’t anticipate enough buses. We need buses. Currently the convention centre is unsanitary and unsafe and we’re running out of supplies.” [Guardian, 9/2/05]
2PM CDT — MICHAEL BROWN CLAIMS NOT TO HAVE HEARD OF REPORTS OF VIOLENCE: “I’ve had no reports of unrest, if the connotation of the word unrest means that people are beginning to riot, or you know, they’re banging on walls and screaming and hollering or burning tires or whatever. I’ve had no reports of that.” [CNN]
Now it's the third day. The mayor and gov of LA has requested help several times with no response, Brown demonstrates he doesnt know what's going on, and despite his promise the earlier day, bushs' task force is still nowhere to be found.

Three days have passed, and still no coordinated response from the feds for a storm they had ample warning to prepare for. All this suffering, and what does Condi do?

Quote:
CONDOLEEZZA RICE GOES SHOE SHOPPING: “Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, ‘How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!’” [Gawker]
And the guy in charge of fixing the mess....He's still getting schooled on what's going on

Quote:
MICHAEL BROWN FINALLY LEARNS OF EVACUEES IN CONVENTION CENTER: “We learned about that (Thursday), so I have directed that we have all available resources to get that convention center to make sure that they have the food and water and medical care that they need.”
Now it's the fouth day of the disaster, and finally, bush has a plan

Quote:
ROVE-LED CAMPAIGN TO BLAME LOCAL OFFICIALS BEGINS: “Under the command of President Bush’s two senior political advisers, the White House rolled out a plan…to contain the political damage from the administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.” President Bush’s comments from the Rose Garden Friday morning formed “the start of this campaign.” [New York Times, 9/5/05
And how about george "What, me worry?" bush?

Quote:
12PM CDT — BUSH “SATISFIED WITH THE RESPONSE”: “I am satisfied with the response. I am not satisfied with all the results.” [AP]
People are dying, and bush is pleased. But what could we do to make bush really happy. How about telling a lie?

Quote:
SENIOR BUSH ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL LIES TO WASHINGTON POST, CLAIMS GOV. BLANCO NEVER DECLARED STATE OF EMERGENCY: The Post reported in their Sunday edition “As of Saturday, Blanco still had not declared a state of emergency, the senior Bush official said.” They were forced to issue a correction hours later. [Washington Post, 9/4/05]
9AM CDT — BUSH BLAMES STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS: “[T]he magnitude of responding to a crisis over a disaster area that is larger than the size of Great Britain has created tremendous problems that have strained state and local capabilities. The result is that many of our citizens simply are not getting the help they need.” [White House, 9/3/05]

Really?

Well tell me then, oh political wizard:

Why would any of this make the Republican Party look good?

Explain to me how the main ideals of the Republican Party (small government and free market economics) would have helped in this situation in any way, shape or form? (Since they seem to have no other platform at all besides those points)

On the contrary, those ideals could do nothing but make the situation worse, as they would have included even LESS regulation, and LESS resources to lend to help the situation.

So, if this crisis is making Obama look bad, it SURE AS HELL ISN'T GOING TO HELP ANY OF THE "DRILL BABY DRILL" CROWD GET ELECTED.

And, since the "drill baby drill", "Hands off of corporations" crowd makes up your entire base, when election time comes around, as soon as you idiots start bringing this up, the democrats will start the video clips rolling of your endless tirades against government over-reach in trying to control corporations.

No, you all won't look very good at all, now will you?

Now, personally, I feel this is a national crisis and people should cool it with the same old partisan bullshit, but if you all decide to go there, you will find your foot stuck so far in your mouth that your big toe will be protruding from your buttocks.

Yeah. You run with that... The More-Regulations-That-We-Don't-Bother-To-Enforce-But-Will-Tax-The-Pants-Off-Your-Asses-Anyway-In-Order-To-Create-A-Bigger-Bureaucracy Platform.

Your regulations didn't stop that oil leak from happening and they didn't stop our current economic crisis. Because... regulations have to actually address the problem and they have to actually be enforced. :eusa_whistle:

The Idiot-In-Chief sure has alot to say about "evil oil companies", but in the 16 months in which he had to address the problem... he sat around with his thumb up his ass. And when a crisis resulted... he sat around with his thumb up his ass some more.

Republicans didn't make his choices for him. BP didn't make his choices for him. He decided for himself to utilize this crisis in order to forward his crappy socialist agenda, to try and implement his Cap-and-Tax scam. So, who's making it political???

Thought is above what pay grade? I don't get paid to think for the federal government. If I did, then I would be one of those assholes up there drawing a fat ass check and sitting around looking at porn all day!!!

You are insanely misinformed about ANYTHING that has to do with the day to day operations of the federal government, the US Navy or ANY of our armed forces for that matter. Where the hell do you get your information from anyway? Stop watching old episodes of West Wing and apply some effort into research before you start spewing from the asshole above your chin. And when someone brings out a point that you don't like or disagree with, you might want to consider a logical argument instead of just dismissing it as a lie. Which automatically puts you in the JACKASS column for me.
