I do know that they said one of the kids had allergies so they were looking for a dog that wouldn't affect that as much, which played a part in their choice. As did Teddy. (Gonna try really hard not to bring up the fact that Obama originally promised that they'd save a life and get a dog from a shelter but copped out. Ooops, guess I failed.) And as Eve pointed out, people frequently choose dogs that resemble themselves.
