Costco's Profit Soars As Low-Wage Competitors Struggle

Costco is racist!!!

Making people pay a fee to shop there!! It's just not fair to the poor people who can barely raise the money to shop in the first place!!

They just cater to the rich white corporate type!!

paying its workers a decent wage

sadly, liberals are far far too stupid to understand capitalism. If all it took to make bigger and bigger profits in retailing is paying a "decent wage" everyone would be racing to do it, obviously!

Do you think you have to be a Harvard MBA with a lifetime of 80 hour weeks to consider the Costco example??????

I am still waiting for Star's and CloseMinded's explanation of how paying higher wages actually equates to higher profits...

Since Republicans hate education, most have probably never heard of/or taken an economics class that included Efficiency Wages, but to answer your question in simplest terms -- Balance-Native Intelligence-Efficiency Wages-Incentive

and...

..."people tend to prefer working hard for people and organizations that acknowledge their worth and respond in kind"

Any questions?
.

And this has nothing to do with your assertion... this has to do with motivating employees to work.. not the effect on the PRICE OF GOODS nor TOTAL PROFIT

You are a dense one

DiamondDave asked for an "explanation of how paying higher wages actually equates to higher profits..."

so-----so I gave him/her one, so...

DiamondDave responded; "this has nothing to do with your assertion... this has to do with motivating employees to work.." hahaha that's it -- that's all ya got left?

Thanks for the confirmation.

DiamondDave? I believe this is yours,
it was found on a USMB thread titled;
Costco's Profit Soars As Low-Wage Competitors Struggle

Costco is not a discount store. Their prices are, ounce for ounce, identical to my local grocery store. The only reason to go out of your way to shop at a Costco warehouse is if you have a lot of kids who eat a lot of food. But check their prices. Even though you are buying larger scale, you are not paying less for buying bigger.

And if you end up throwing away half of that gallon jar of mayonaisse you bought at Costco because it spoiled before you used it all, then you are actually losing money.

That is patently false. Comically so.
I just did a quick example.

Cheerios

Costco: $5.50 for 40.7 oz = 0.135 per oz.
Wal8Mart: $3.68 for 18 oz = 0.204 per oz

So, 13.5 cents at Costco, 20.4 cents at Wal*Mart

Sam''s Club would be most efficient in price comparison then Walmart.
Cheerios - 2 box pk. - 40.7 oz. $5.78 = 0.142 per oz.

Membership fee $40

House Republicans Vote to Keep Millions in Poverty by Refusing to Raise the Minimum Wage

a little Econ. 101 for you. Higher wages or higher costs mean high prices so there is no net gain in even a law sayng that everyone has to earn $100,000 a year. In fact, it would mean fewer jobs too since fewer businesses could afford the same number of workers at a higher salary.

And Costco is successful in areas where there is an enormous customer base...but when they move out of the metropolises, they get crushed by their competition.

Wal-mart is everywhere...their business model works in all locations.

In Missouri there are five Costco's, three in St Louis and two in Kansas City...they tried to expand and failed.

Wal-mart...100 locations in Missouri...no closures.

WalMart is not everywhere.

hyperbole....learn it moron

Sorry - Walmart is not everywhere. They are not in Chicago, or NYC, or a lot of other places that have decided they don't want Walmart in their neighborhoods.

Econ 101: in fact Walmart makes neighborhoods richer by saving its customers millions that they can then spend elsewhere for a huge net increase in their standard of living.

Slow???

No. It wouldn't. He stated that

Sam's Club is not his local grocery store. And I seriously doubt that any independents out there are undercutting Walmarts prices unless it's a sale.

Yes, Sam's Club is going to be closer to Costco. But it's Sam's Club. It's a glorified Walmart, with cheap products from China.

an increase in wages will almost always result in a price increase. to assume otherwise shows you're ignorant as to business models.

Yeah Dave!

why do you emote retard so much?

do you honestly believe that higher wages do not usually result in higher prices?

a liberal will often not realize that an apple costs less than a car
because an apple costs less to make!!

No they dont, what came first, mom and pop places with a "living wage" and benifits? or Big box stores with low wages? Walmarts destroyed local towns, put stores out of bussinesss and sold cheap crap from China...

It's hard to tell where the radical left is going these days. One day they are supporting the socialist revolution and praising the OWS rabble and the next day they are using Wall Street figures to promote a fake story about the economy rebounding. One thing you can depend on though is the radical left's support for unions which have all but ruined the economy and their token socialist shots at corporate wealth.

I Hate Union's as much as I Hate Walmart....

Walmart puts inefficient stores out of business that charge rip-off prices, but they make their customers richer and this makes other businesses boom when the newly richer Walmart customers spend their extra money!

Econ 101 for you!! Sorry!! Now you understand the nature of economic progress.

No you dont understand it, So sorry you are confused. I really dont time to educate you, or just drive in a 45 mile radius and post pics in the upstate of South Carolina where I live now, on how it destroyed the local towns. Walmart recieved tax breaks in these towns. And the sell cheap crap from China not made in America goods.... Are you that dense.... Anyone that shops at Walmart is Anti-American. It is as bad as letting millions of illegal illegal immigrants get a free ride instead of just deporting them. Quit being left or right and use your brain. please.....

there is no reason to hate Walmart anymore than any other company that beats its competitors by giving us lower prices that save us billions of dollars!!
