Conservatives out of touch with people?

Gov. Daniels called for truce on social issues until we can get the economy straightened out. Sounds good to me, focus on what is really important to most Americans. But Conservatives are saying hold on, we cannot go forward without social issues having the same status as the economy. Personally I think that we ought to be focused on the economy.

Personally, as a CONSERVATIVE, I believe that straightening out the SOCIAL ISSUES is the best thing that we can do in order to start to fix the economy.

I feel terrible, I am unemployed, collecting unemployment, I just did my taxes, 8k I will get back, that combined with unemployment and I can honestly say I have not paid any Federal Income tax or State Income tax. Yet in California if I bought land and wanted to build a house I would need at least 30,000$ in fees just for permission to build, any plans I submit will need to meet specific county building codes adding thousands to the cost. Just to build a new house, a simple place to live I owe the government tens of thousands of dollars.

This seems like the big issue, Congress, the President, the Justice System, the bureaucrats, local governments, are all "out of touch with the people".

How about that energy policy, anybody here of an Energy shortage this last week.

How many decades has Congressed addressed energy, how many new laws since Obama has been elected, over 700 new laws concerning energy.

Brown-outs are government failures, Brown-outs in the year 2011.

Our government has failed, all the rules and regulations and tax have destroyed our ability to provide energy needed just to survive a disaster.

Until we have cheap, abundant energy our country is a failure, we are losers, the rest of the world is simply out performing us, your children will be left suffering, waiting for the wind to blow or the sun to shine.

Santorum hits Daniels on the 'truce' - Alex Isenstadt - POLITICO.com

Unfortunately, social issues have a huge impact on the economy.

Though I haven't seen any evidence that the right is failing to focus on the economy.

Perhaps the left just feels bad about the bullshit crap they push and is projecting that onto the right. For example, the putrid insistence that we continue to increase funding of spectacular social programs....like obamacare....that causes the right to address social issues.

Wrong. Avarice, bigotry and callousness are the cause for the Right addressing social issues.

But apparently, makey-uppey doesnt work when applied in the real world s0n...........................

sucks dog balls to be wrong all the time s0n, doesnt it? Stuff resonates only in that whacked out shitstain city you live in.

two young boys and my wife, so three, that makes all the difference. no mortgage deduction. The wife does not work, I do owe California 800$ to register my truck, I will also pay another 800$ to immigrations for my wife to return to the USA from Brazil, we did the process once but the government made a mistake and I get to start over, the first time was only 2,000$ give or take in fees, this time who knows what I will pay.

I get 8,000 dollars but I owe California Department of Motor Vehicles 800$ to register my truck, it was 400$ when I bought the truck, the rate was raised to 600$, I am late paying the 600$, so another 200$ in fines. I got laid off, I figured why pay the 600$, it was before Christmas.

1,600$ I will pay to the government in the next 30 days, I now have 6400$.

Call it whining, call it telling you another aspect of our government Social Programs, the money always comes from me. Somewhere, some how, the government finds all money and spends it.

Well that' pretty much what President Obama suggested in the State of the Union speech. Let's call a truce on what has already been done and go forward civilly hand in hand with spending frozen at present levels. Meaning, of course, at the levels that have already done the damage and without correcting any of the problems that have generated a runaway deficit and debt.

To any conservative this is not acceptable.

I submit that the vast majority of Americans with a clue are more conservative than not--that would include most of mainstream Americans. So it's pretty hard to acknowledge that and say that conservatives are out of touch with the people since most of the people are at least somewhat conservative.

Then there is the political class who looks to the federal government to solve all of societies ills and who blame conservatives for all the ills of society.

Which is out of touch? Hmmmm.
And yet on another thread you told me that property rights were more important than civil rights. Which is it?

In m opinion the least Moderate Republican in our time was R. Reagan, a actor who brought a administration that served the country well with the culmination of the Cold War, that culmination was not solely of his doing it had been under way for some years.
Reagan's successor, Bush41 was a "Moderate" Republican who unlike his opposition could not pull off a full blown political Conservatism, he got rolled by his trusted "friend" Tip O'Neill 1st cat out of the box. Bush43 was similarly inclined in some ways even when he held a political majority,,, too bad,,, for us,,, the Liberal opposition have no such moderating compulsions.
Moderate Republicans hold the reins of the party today, but some optimistic inroads are developing.

Give it a rest lefties. You are making George Soros work overtime. Just ask yourself, what has the democrat majority in congress accomplished in four years and what has Obama accomplished in two (long, long) years when he was spending money like a junkie community activist with a stolen ATM card? Now you lefties want to worry about the economy and Rick Santorum? Yeah right.

I believe I was clear that if there are no property rights, there are no civil rights. You really cannot separate the two.

I'm not clear on what that has to do with my comments in the quoted post however.

I don't think it is whining at all. My most recent complaint about government is a request/demand/heartfelt wish/whatever that our fearless leaders understand how difficult it is to earn and hold on to a dollar these days, and that they appreciate that and respect that and do their damndest to make sure our tax dollars paid accomplish the maximum amount of good.

Just a few projects that our stimulus money that was supposed to all go for shovel ready jobs repairing critical infrastructure went for:

$554,763 spent on replacing windows on a visitor's center in Washington State that closed its door three years ago.

$762,372 was given to the University of North Carolina Charlotte for dance draw. Somebody please explain "dance draw".

$62.5 million for a light rail tunnel under the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh to connect sports stadiums to the casinos.

$11.2 million to convert a tiny closed down train station into a museum.

$1.9 million to fund the study of ants.

$90,000 for new sidewalks in Boynton, Oklahoma, to replace five year old sidewalks, that leads to a ditch.

$40 million for upgraded office space and indoor parking for Kansas law makers.

$50 million for WNBA practice facilities in Connecticut.

$762,372 to a Georgia Tech professor so he can study improvised music.

$144,541 to get monkeys high on cocaine to see how they respond.

$497,893 to quit smoking and get a Smart Phone. They were buying Smart Phones for people so when they felt like they might smoke, they could call someone and they could tell them not to smoke.

$199,862 helping Siberian lobby Russian policymakers.

$298,543 to help predict the weather, on other planets.

$456,663 to Cal Berkley to study global circulation in the atmosphere of Neptune.

$712,883 goes to scientists who are trying to create a joke machine.

$500,000 to Dayton, Ohio, for microchips to track citizens' use of recycling bins.

Now some of those things might be a bit exaggerated here and some may have been good things. But do you feel your tax dollar has been respeced? Do you believe whoever authoriuzed those grants cared that you will work years or even a lifetime paying taxes and it all is swept into something the government has no business doing at all and certainly has no business doing in a time of financial hardship for so many.

I hope you find a good job soon. But if you do, its really REALLY good odds that it won't be due to anything the Federal government has accomplished lately. Or the government of California for that matter.

Stimulus Bill
TARP II
Financial reform
Saved auto companies
Student loan reform
Credincard reform
Healthcare
START
Repeal DADT

That was two years.....what exactly did Repubs accomplish over eight

Fact is the majority of Americans are in debt. Real conservatives don't believe in debt, or so many self defined conservatives suggest. I submit most of the conservatives who post on this MB have debt, likely you too, Foxfyre.
Faux conservatives, the type who post here ad nauseaum, are easy to identify. They wear their values in each post they submit - avarice, bigotry and callous disregard for others.

Okay everybody who thinks Wry might be right here repeat after me:

Everything good, positive, or useful in this country has been accomplished by big government so long as liberals were in charge.

Everything bad, ugly, hateful, uncivil, cruel, selfish, greedy, counterproductive, and wrong in this country has been accomplished by conservatives.

If you say it often enough you can believe it too.

You know Wry, I get really tired of being accused of being the devil himself over and over and over by the likes of you.

I have been deeply in uncollateralized debt in the past to the point I could have legally declared bankruptcy. I didn't. I did without a few needs and a lot of wants for a long time, but I dug myself out of it. I didn't expect anybody else to do that for me--certainly not the government--and nobody did. And I now know not to do the things that put me in debt and I've learned from experience to avoid pitfalls that generally produce unintended negative consequences.

Right now the only 'debt' I have is a modest mortgage on our house and that isn't really a debt as the payments get made on time including interest and the house has appreciated in value almost as much as what we initially paid for it. The mortgage company doesn't look at it as a debt we owe them but rather as an investment they made. And it has been good for both parties.

The uncollaterized debts our government is forcing on us is quite a different matter.

Foxfyre, Wry doesn't understand the meaning of this, he never will. The likes of Wry blame all of their problems on the successful individuals who sacrifice for achievement. They can't stand what they see in the mirror and deep inside they do not like themselves, hence the reason to try and bring everyone else down with them. The excuses are endless with Wry....

The recession *IS* the problem that's generated the runaway deficit and debt... Combined with recklessly low taxes. This is what the Repubs are failing to grasp.

Recklessly low taxes?

Good Lord.... Perhaps you are referring to the 45%+ who pay none?

:eusa_drool:

Among other things, yes, I am referring to them.

This is another sore point with me too, and the Republicans have been as guilty, if not more so, than the Democrats in creating this unfortunate situation.

The Democrats got us to this point in their eagerness to assign victim status to the poor and assign the title of "oppressor of the poor' to the rich.

The Republicans got us to this point in their eagerness to prove they cared just as much about the poor as anybody else.

The result, in both cases, was as viscious an assault on the poor that this country has ever perpetuated. We are now paying politicians to use the poor as the means to increase their own power, prestige, influence, and personal fortunes.

And we have the poor in the position of having to re-elect and support those who put them into their current circumstances and are dedicated to keeping them there.

It is cruel, it is senseless. and it is indefensible.

I am sure you are right about some Conservatives being out of Touch. However I find it Funny any liberal/Dem would be pointing that out. Considering just how Badly out of Touch your Party is as well.

And where oh where do you see Democrat or liberal. Does anyone who questions a conservative automatically become a liberal/Democrat? That is the problem in America today, it is "Are you with us or against us?" If you don't agree with us totally you are against us. A mature society encourages different opinions and open minds and this is what makes them grow and be strong.

You can label me all you want but you will find that my beliefs and opinions are my own and sometimes I agree with one side on one issue and the other side on something else. I cannot and will not let some other person tell me what I have to believe or how to vote. I make my own mind up on every issue. When a person goes in the voting booth and votes along party lines they are puppets not individuals and just a pawn to the party hacks. I wonder how many of them let other people run their lives.

Modern American Conservatism and liberalism are both a mindset, a concept of a better way of life, a construct for how to determine the difference between right and wrong or at least better or worse.

In a nutshell:

Modern American Conservatives put faith in the rank and file American people and their ability to govern themselves. Conservatives are guided by a principle of inviolable unalienable rights and the rule of law that recognizes and defends those. The role of the federal government is to secure those rights so that the people are truly free to form whatever sort of society they wish to have.

Modern American Liberals put faith in a central government to use law, regulation, and mandate to construct an orderly, compassionate, and benevolent society in which all prosper more or less equally and all are safe from harm.
