Communist California to require Solar Panels on all new homes

I have oil heat . There’s a bunch of safety regs when it comes to holding tanks . Lots of older homes are grandfathered , but if u sell you have to update. .

Cali has an energy problem . Also has a lot of sunlight !

Seems like a smart idea .

Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. But shouldn't the citizens be allowed to make that decision and not the government?
It's a form of taking property without just compensation.

How’s that ? There are all kinds of regs for homes . I’m sure you can live off grid if u like .
And they all reduce the value of your property, but rent control reduces it to zero. That's why landlords in NYC abandoned their rent controlled properties.

Pure crony politics. The solar panel companies, and installers will get rich, as well the politicians who get the kick backs. It is the Democrat way. Look at Solyndra, and how that worked out.

It’s the government way; don’t kid yourself.

House regulations mostly have to do with safety such as electrical work, or perhaps asbestos in older homes. Also they want to make sure the structure is sound enough to sell to another person in the event you move.

But many cities (such as mine) took that too far as well. Once they get their foot in the door.............

Nonsense.

Regulatory policies are enacted by elected officials reflecting the will of the majority of the people.

If the people object to a given policy, they are at liberty to petition the government to change that policy, or to otherwise remove from office those elected officials who enacted the policy.

It’s called a republican form of government, nothing ‘communist’ about it.
Na, Socialism is all about controlling people you disagree with and forcing them into a living hell...

Government tells you how much insulation you must have, the number of electric outlets, type of pipes and wiring you must use, depth of a cellar, the height of a roof, the size of the house on a lot, etc.... State housing laws and local building codes are about what is best for the community, not the owner. Owners change but the buildings remains.

You didn't bother explaining what that energy problem is, however, I will point out that Solar Panels are not only expensive, but horribly inefficient.

Even if they were designed to track the sun, they would operate at a maximum efficiency of 33%, and that's assuming the sun is ALWAYS out, and clouds don't exist. Most of what is seen on the market is about 16% efficiency. Of course, this should already be obvious, they wouldn't need government subsidies, nor the government forcing people to buy these products, if they could actually compete on the market.

Not only all of this, but they're removing a choice for homeowners, people now have to PAY for Solar Panels, because the government wants them do. If the government can do this, they can force people to buy other things as well.

That makes non sense .

Buffer zones aren’t about “controlling people “. They are about minimizing damage from wildfires . Damage we all end up paying for .

Will the state come and remove my panels and replace them when I need a new roof?

I think it's smart governing.

Solar panels pay for themselfs in cheaper electrical bills and if you roll up-front cost into mortgage you'll probably not be paying more than for the same house without solar.

Why should the community dictate what kind of house you live in? For example, those tiny houses that are all the rage violate most zoning laws.

So this includes multi family units. The ones poor people need. That will now cost more. And who’s going to keep the street lights working once everyone is off grid? I see a new tax coming.

History has proven the collective wrong.... every time

It's so smart that people have to literally be forced to do it at gunpoint. The kind of person who thinks government should impose his ideas on everyone is the kind of person who is a certified moron.

So once you get an entire city off grid who pays for the streetlights and such? Does the entire grid die off?
