A promising new system can convert brown seaweed into biofuel, opening up a new possible source of energy that could help replace fossil fuels, like gasoline, scientists reported today (Jan. 19).

The secret: bacteria genetically engineered to break down a previously inaccessible sugar in seaweed, called alginate.

The researchers who developed this new system used it to generate ethanol, a biofuel that is added to gasoline; however, it has the potential to produce not just ethanol but other biofuels, they and others say.

Why do we need to "replace" fossil fuels? What is wrong with using them

    Why bother?
There's already so much ethanol that 20% of it is exported.

Did you miss the meeting when using corn to generate ethanol was discussed? To bring you up to speed, it raised the price of corn, an important human and animal food.

I think you're the clear winner of the "Most Completely Clueless Poster" award for 2012.

Fossil fuels release fossil carbon into the atmosphere when they are burned.

Burning fossil fuels over the last couple of centuries has increased Earth's atmospheric CO2 levels by 40%.

Carbon dioxide is a powerful greenhouse gas.

Increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere have produced abrupt and unnatural global warming and accelerating climate changes that threaten to destroy important parts of the Earth's ecosystems and bio-diversity and also threaten human civilization and populations.

That's why we need to replace fossil fuels with clean, non CO2 emitting energy sources, like solar, wind, geothermal, and ocean energy (wave, tide, current) sources or, second best, carbon neutral bio-fuels like ethanol.

I decided not to take that tack in answering the question, because it just seemed like a lame come-on so that the poster could call someone a "Warming cultist". It was so obvious it seemed the best way to deal with it was ridicule. :poop:

Nobody fcuking cares about this except the hyper-nutters on board like this one. Go to any polling site on the internet and see where global warming/climate change are on the priority list. Not even in the top 15 asshole!!!:boobies::boobies::fu:

USATODAY.com - Poll: Domestic issues troubling Americans

In fact......global warming ranks LAST on the list of publics concerns..........

Poll: Global Warming Ranks Last in Public Concern | Heartlander Magazine

    Ask me if Im laughing???:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Solar and wind are gay.........never will accoount for more than 5% of our energy needs. ( except to the utopian Disney dumbasses).

Why does nobody give a shit?

    Because

    it

    costs

    too

    much

    money

    asshole!!!!!!!!!!!

And by the way.........you can pick up chinstraps at the local Sports Authority.........because after this November, we're going to be drilling and fracking our asses off.

Only 4 in 10 Americans are even very sure about global warming!!!!

Its epic lose for the environmental nutters..........Crap and Tax is dead as a doornail..........because nobody gives a shit.:2up::boobies::boobies::coffee:
