Climate Change: It's the Sun, Stupid

So who here doubts that the overall global temperature, both the atmosphere and the ocean is rising?

Anybody?

Yes, the globe has been recovering from the Little Ice Age since 1850. The temperatures have been rising at the rate of .5C per hundred years since that time. Lately however (for the last ten years or so (depending on who you choose to believe) the temperatures have remained static. Some claim that the temperatures began to drop 8 or so years ago but the evidence for that contention is lacking.

More recently the temperatures have begun a very slight drop. There are four major global temperature data monitors, three of them have recorded a drop in the overall temperatures....even the CRU at Hadley the originator of the CLIMATEGATE revelations. One of the monitors claims a .3C drop the other two put it at around a .1C drop. GISS (led by Hansen) is the only monitor that claims a rise (+.2C) And that by fraud of course...

"The areas GISS shows to be heating up the most are so short of weather stations that only 25 per cent of the figures are based on actual temperature readings. The rest are simply conjectured by GISS. This is not the first time Dr Hansen’s temperature record has come under expert fire. Three years ago, GISS was forced to revise many of its figures when it was shown that wholesale “adjustments” had been made, revising older temperatures downwards and post-2000 figures upwards"

Paper: On the recovery from the Little Ice Age

So, yes overall the temps have been rising for the last 160 years or so, and now they have entered into a period of leveling off or slightly dropping for the last 8 years or so. You must remember though that most processes that take place on the planet take decades or hundreds of years to occur. Then the next cycle begins. The Sun of course can have major and near immediate impact on the climate of the Earth as many researches are beginning to discover.

In addition, we're looking at a period of relatively low sunspot activity right now. One report I read suggested that the low activity might continue for 20 or 30 years. If so, it might start to get colder.

Truth is, we don't have a good enough grasp on the earth's climate to say much with certainty regarding short-term climate fluctuations.

From your phony paper's link:

The multi-decadal oscillation of a period
of 50 to 60 years was superposed on the linear
change; it peaked in 1940 and 2000, causing the
halting of warming temporarily after 2000

Now, the decade of 2000 to 2009 was WARMER than the previous decade which means to deniers that warming has halted! :cuckoo:

NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - NOAA: 2009 Global Temperatures Well Above Average - Slightly Above-Average for U.S.

The 2000 – 2009 decade will be the warmest on record, with its average global surface temperature about 0.96 degree F above the 20th century average. This will easily surpass the 1990s value of 0.65 degree F.

We have low Sun activity and the PDO is in decline since 2000 and yet it is still getting warmer each decade. All these powerful natural cooling forces combined do not seem powerful enough to overtake global warming. The best these natural forcings seem to do is level the warming trend off temporarily when they oppose global warming but temps never seem to go down. When they reinforce warming, the warming trend picks up from about the same level as when the natural cooling forceings began.

Untrue but feel free to believe what you wish. Piers Corbyn has predicted cold weather for the next couple of decades. He has about an 85% hit rate on his predictions so I think I'll run with his estimates. BTW he's an astrophysicist. He's just better at predicting the weather than the meteorologists out there. According to your group he should just stop it because he's not qualified to talk about the weather! Ha!

Your contention is only true with data manipulation. GISS is falsifying the numbers but hey why should they be held to a ethical standard.

He couldn't even "predict" the PAST decade correctly AFTER THE FACT!!!! How stupid do you have to be to believe he can predict the future? :cuckoo:

The only people caught falsifying the numbers by using the opposite sign to compensate for diurnal satellite drift were deniers Spencer and Christy at UAH. Ever since, deniers have been trying to muddy the waters by accusing everyone else of doing what Spencer and Christy got caught doing. Once the correct sign was used the satellite data matched the ground station data almost exactly!!!

Yessirreee........ Them thar pointy headed Libarul scientists are telling us people in Real America lies.
Yes that is what climate realists were shouting from the rooftops for many years. Then when the climategate e-mails were leaked about a year ago, it PROVED beyond any reasonable doubt that the global warming acedemic leeches were simply lying.

You are free to "believe" whatever you wish. The facts are that the global temperature is down about .2C over the last 8 years or so. The only group that claims otherwise is GISS and it is proven that they are making up 75% of the numbers they are using. You can bluster and belittle all you wish. The fact remains it is damned cold throughout the northern hemisphere. That can't be faked because too many things are dying. From cold.

You are free to FABRICATE whatever you wish. It's been proven YOU are making up 100% of the numbers YOU are using.

Even deniers Christy and Spencer at UAH, who do everything they can to manipulate the data to keep the warming trend as small as possible, have the temperature trend UP for the last decade especially for the northern hemisphere, and they are NOT GISS, so you are caught lying yet again!

Walleyes, once again you are caught in an obvious fabrication. Even Dr. Spencer UAH states that it has warmed over the last decade. When are you going to stop posting obvious lies? It is almost getting embarrassing pointing them out. They are so silly and transparent.

Then please explain how over 2 million creatures have died from cold over the last two years in this period of "record" warmth. It stands to reason that the cold would have existed the last time it got really hot back in 1998 by your resoning and it's amazing but I can't find any reference to major cold snaps that were hemisphere wide. Can you?

You claim to have three years of geology behind you, so please explain to the class how the Principle of Uniformitarianism works and how most of your contentions violate that simple principle.

So who here doubts that the overall global temperature, both the atmosphere and the ocean is rising?

Anybody?

It depends on your frame of reference. Over the last 300 years, warming. Over the last 2000 years, warming. Over the last 8000 years, cooling. Over the last 10,000 years, about the same.

Over the last 12,000 years, vascillation within a two degree range, give or take a thousand years.

Over the last 65 million or so years, we're down about 6 to 8 degrees right now and have been within about a 10 to 15 degree range the whole time.
