Christopher Columbus achieved great things and will never be forgotten...

There is a huge bronze statue of Christopher Columbus in front of Columbus City Hall which the malcontents want razed to the ground and protesting. Columbus Day is a legal holiday in Ohio and CPD now guards his statue.

My middle/high school daughters told me that CC was just an explorer. That was it, nothing great about him. His motivation was greed. That works for me.

He wanted to enrich himself, like anyone else.
As for "nothing great about him", he's the accepted poster boy of when the technological world discovered this hemisphere. This led the way to a total transformation of modernization of both continents.
He's well worth remembering, despite today's attempts to destroy his legacy.

Not surprising considering the state of things in this country today.

That's right, if you hate Columbus, what you're really hating is the nation made possible by his discovery of this continent.
Technically, Christopher Columbus didn't discover the North American continent; he landed in what is today, the Bahamas and proceeded to enslave its indigenous occupants. Vikings aside, the first initially recognized European to be credited with landing in North America, was Giovanni Caboto (aka: John Cabot). Of course, as we know now, the actual first discoverers of North America were the Asian nomads that crossed over via the Bering Strait and others via the Pacific Ocean. There really is no reason to have a holiday for a brutal slaver who never landed in the US. We have ample holidays as it is.

It wouldn't matter who we gave credit to for the "discovery", you guys would rip to shreds anyone who interrupted the lives of the indigenous people who to listen to you guys were all peaceful people loving each other and sharing the land.

Hope springs eternal and there is hope for our country.

Tony Soprano said it best, "A great man and a hero to the Italian-American community.......end of story".:2up:

Tony Soprano is a fictional character.

Tony Soprano is a Hollywood fictional character. A true mob boss hero was Albert Anastasia who was locked up in prison but worked with the feds to keep the New York docks open and running during WW2. Sabotage was a real problem on the docks back then and the malcontents slept with the fish.

Who cares s0n.......trust me.........Columbus is going nowhere in places like NYC and Boston, as we shall see!!:2up:

Just read a very interesting piece about him. It claimed he wasn't seeking fame or fortune but was bent on seeing Christianity spread to unknown and pagan lands. Also reports of punishing crew members for violating or raping natives.

He actually died a pauper.

Like all of us, he had some good points and some bad points.

But...since he was a white man, the Left only sees the bad. It is a concerted effort to denigrate the white man.

...and the people who are trying to tear him down are small and insignificant, with no accomplishments, and will be forgotten five minutes after they die.
What did he accomplish?

He miscalculated the diameter of the Earth. He thought he was somewhere he was not. He abused the natives to the point that even the Spanish sent him back home in chains.

He was Italian...there was a time in this country where Italians weren't considered white.

Columbus needs to be looked at from a 1500 perspective

Natives were considered to be savages no better than animals. They were treated accordingly

Columbus was no worse than any of his contemporaries. I do not see many people of his day standing up for the rights of native people

Pack all the accomplishments of all the indigenous people in the Americas and it doesn't add up to the accomplishments of one European explorer named Columbus.
The pagan Vikings were first....and they didn't perpetuate genocide either.

They kinda poked around and went home and never told anyone

After Columbus discovered the new world, it stayed discovered

Don't be too happy brown people are taking over slowly.
